SOURCE: Remote transmitter stopped working, changed

There is no way to tell if you only have the one transmitter. If you have another remote or a wireless keypad that is working normally then it is that remote.

Intermittent LOUD shorting sound

I would prefer to hear it to be sure which one it is, but the four biggest causes of noise in a wireless system are: 1) Something hitting the mic (check to make sure the mic is free of clothing, other people, faces, etc.) 2) If the mic is a lavalier or in some way has a cable that plugs into the transmitter, something pulling on it could create a loud noise. Check to make sure it's in snug. 3) RF Interference with another mic or some other interference source. Try changing the frequency. 4) Something blocking the signal between the transmitter antenna and the receiver antenna. This is most likely to happen with a lavalier in someone's pocket or under clothing, and/or if the transmitter is far away from the receiver. The SLX series is okay for what it is, but part of why it's on the cheaper side is because of its limited distance. Unfortunately the only ways to alleviate this are to a) Reduce the distance, b) get a stronger wireless system, c) move the transmitter somewhere that the antenna is free, and d) invest in True Diversity antennae for the receiver.

Fused Terminal Block on Refrigerator

  1. Signal Integrity
    • One benefit of using a terminal strip to connect the thermocouple wires is signal integrity. Since the thermocouple has a temperature probe located on the end of the wires, a signal must be sent from the probe to the thermocouple. The equipment and machinery will work intermittently, if the signal strength is not maintained. For example, if the probe senses the flame on the furnace, it sends a signal to the thermocouple. Once the flame goes out, a signal is sent to the thermocouple, which shuts off the gas.
    • The terminal strips have a covering, or shield, to protect the thermocouple wires. You can open the strip and gain access to two metals for testing. You must cut off the insulation surrounding each metal wire and insert them into a terminal strip to make the proper connection. The cover protects those bare wires from dirt and debris. The cover can be removed when troubleshooting the thermocouple and wiring. Without the terminal strip, you would have to cut off each wire's insulation to test the signal strength and voltage between the probe and the thermocouple.
  2. Transmitter
    • A thermocouple sensor that has to carry signals over a long distance requires a thermocouple transmitter to strengthen the signal. Using terminal strips makes it easier to connect a transmitter to the thermocouple device. The terminal strips also lengthen the thermocouple wires. If you need to extend the distance from the probe to the thermocouple, you can add additional wires and splice them with terminal strips to increase the distance. It is like adding an extension cord to an outlet, so you can extend the distance between the outlet and the television.
    • Another benefit of using a terminal strip is that the strip enables a better electrical connection between the two thermocouple wires. Without a terminal strip, you would have to introduce signal compensation metals for the thermocouple sensor to get an accurate temperature reading between the two metals. Since the terminal strip uses the same metals found in the thermocouple wires, your electrical connection will not lose voltage. A decrease in voltage can trip the thermocouple.

I have an acurite atomic wall / weather clock but the outside temperature is reading blank. I changed the batteries in the transmitter but still no reading. Where can I purchase a new transmitter. The...

I had one of these a while back and it had a required sequence for putting in the batteries. When the signal dies and you have to replace the transmitter batteries and the clock batteries in a certain sequence. The transmitter batteries cannot just be replaced. You also had to remove the clock batteries, then put in the transmitter batteries, then replace the clock batteries.

My Nuvi 750 has stopped talking, still shows the map but no voice

That has happened to me several times. When it happens I go to Tools > Settings > Language. In my case, the Voice field is empty, so I click on the Voice field and then select American English-Jill (TTS) and it's okay afterwards.
