You do not need a dial-up internet connection to use fax. All you need is a working phone line. Beyond that it works like a phone call (think of it as one fax machine calling another fax machine), so if your plan allows you to call locally only, then you can only fax locally as well. If you try to fax long distance, it may or may not work based on whether you can make a long distance phone call. Also, you will be charged for long distance calls if you fax long distance. These fees have nothing to do with Lexmark or whatever brand your fax machine is, it is the phone company that will charge you.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

I have an "all in one" model X2580. I haven't attempted faxing, but I just looked up faxing in my user's manual and it appears we need a modem with fax capability to do this. Before reading the manual, I assumed it was done over the Internet.
Text from manual:
"Make Sure:
The printer is connected to a computer that is equipped with a fax modem.
The computer is connected to a working phone line.
Both the printer and the computer are turned on."

Having Quest DSL should not be a problem. but it won't help you.
If you don't have a fax capable modem in or attached to your computer, is one included in your answering machine that could be attached to your computer? If so, this could help. If not, you probably need to install either an internal or external 56K modem with fax. They are not expensive and if you're lucky, someone might give you one id they're changing their ISP from Dialup to DSL or Cable Modem.

I will ask a Lexmark person I have been in contact with recently, but I don't think this can be done over the Internet.

Uanble to call from Lexmark X4270

Have you tried to call out using the phone as a phone and not just faxing? Because the "unable to connect" voice is made by an operator or phone system, not your printer. Make sure that you are not running DSL over analog lines, on a digital phone system, or using IP phones. Fax machines will pick these high-frequency sounds up and it interferes with connectivity.

In the case of DSL at least I know there are line scrubbers you can buy. But in most cases the best bet is to run the FAX on a dedicated analog line.

Sending Fax

set baud rate to 9600 or slow
set resolution to standard
set error correction mode (ECM) off
.
.
if fax has overseas mode turn it on

vonage can make changes to the line that could help, if your using a voice line with call waiting use *70 prior to the number to disable call waiting for that call

Need to know how to send fax's.

Hello,

Your particular Lexmark X3350 does not have a fax modem. You have a couple different options though, however I am not sure if the option in the software you are using will be ungreyed, but you will be able to send faxes.

One option is to purchase a modem at a computer store (usually they are around $15) and install it. If you want to take this route then I would first check to see if your computer has room for one or sometimes I have found people already have one, and its just not installed. If you would like to take this route, respond and I will make detailed instructions on how to install for you.

Another option is to pay for a service to send & receive faxes for you. This is common, because as technology continiously increases everything is becoming more and more digital and people are shifting away from using real paper all of the time. For instance I built a service for a company a few years ago where they could fax whatever papers they wanted by sending an email to my program with the telephone number as the subject of the email and whatever they wanted to fax as an attachment. If you are interested in this alternative let me know, and I will suggest some third party services for you.

Regards,

-Chester
