Question about Hitachi 43FWX20B 43" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

After installing the two converegence chips,(stk-392-110)the tv powers on for maybe two seconds then shuts off. I took the board back out and checked all solder joints, they were all ok.when powered on I did not see any smoke or sparks, it just goes off after two seconds. All of the resisters appered to look ok,so I did not replace any of them. Any sugestions on what might be wrong or is it time to get a new tv. Thank You very much for any sugestions.

Yes - You most likely created a short by soldering the convergence chip pins together. Go back over your soldering and fix any bad spots. No two pins should be touching.

Check your soldering. Check the vertical power board on the far left when looking from the back. It has fuses on it as well.

Depending on quality of STK chips, they could have been bad or failed right away. Best things is to look at the schematic, verify what colors you can move and see which STK chip is not functioning.

If both chips are not function after replacement, likely a fuse. Be sure to verify the resistors next to the STK chips.

Powers on for about 5 seconds and shuts off with 3 flashes of the power light. Continues to flash 3 times.

Hi: Three flashes for the power indicator indicates convergence failure, Most failures are the large black convergence IC's on the convergence board, have these replace to restore operation, The Part number should be on the chips themselves. But just in case the part number of the are STK-392-110, Replace them with 120 for extra life expectancy. (STK-392-120)

Turns on and within a second goes out

Bad capacitors. They're cheap. Look for the ones closest to where the power cord comes in to the main pcb board. This will be your power supply circuit. Change them! They're probably dried out. If they're bubbled up, they're also bad. They're so cheap though, just replace them all.

Convergence Board (I hope)

check this out I have the same problem check your solder spot make sure the solder points are not touching one another, that could be one of the reason is doing this or just to make sure you can desolder the stk chips clean the holes where the pins go trough the board and power the tv with board and if the tv start fine if could be bad stk chips be very careful when desoldering or soldering good luck about another is not worth it they cost too much around 350-450

Colors not aligned and picture arched.

I have had the same problem with my tv.I have replaced the 2 stk packs and have had the same result. So I called a tv repair man to the house and gave me a $400 estimate.I have come to far to give up fixing the TV myself!! So I started to check voltages on the power board and found on the 9 pin connector (right when you pull the back of TV panel off its right there)there all printed on the board.Check all those voltages, especially -22 and +22.Put your meter ground on the wire in between those 2 wires and check both.If either are not there, remove board and you will find about 1" in from that connector 2 orange resistor looking components, they are solid state fuses.Use an ohm meter to see if either are blown.there desigination on the board is5001 and 5002.I replaced one with an automotive 5 amp mini fuse soldered to two 1" pieces of wire.plug back in check for powers and if all good do following, press in order on remote display button then 5 button then volume + then power button all within 5 sec,you will see bunches of #s and letters. Then press 8 then enter, the tv should shut off.this is master reset for TV and starts whole tv like you just took it out of box.TV should be fixed

Panasonic pt-53tw53 convergence

It looks more like an open solder because you were able to align it properly after replacing the STK ICs, if there was an open resistor(s) you would not be able to get it align.
I would suggest to go back and double check the solder joints on the STK ICs as well add some fresh solder to the resistors nearby the stk392-180.
Good Luck.
