I usually just put some oil on the threads of the spark plug but not in the hole.

2003 ZX2 oil in plugs

it means the oil is going past the oil rings on your piston .three things can do that .you have used the wrong oil. use 20/40 for older cars .the piston rings are sticking in the pistons.or crankcase back pressure .in which clean your breather system. but you cant clean it to you remove the oil.remove all the spark plugs .turn over the engine the oil if there will come out of the holes.spray carb cleaner in the holes only a small amount .clean and refill the spark plugs.start your engine lit it tick over.if running put an engine flush in the engine on tick over about 15 min then drain it refill with 20/40 oil .

Can oil in spark plug hole after changing coil packs, plugs and wires cause 1999 Sportage to run worse than before? Engine is "dieseling" and blew white smoke for a minute or two. Changed valve...

The oil down the plug hole will cause the white smoke, and as you said it cleared in a couple of minutes, but also may have oil fowled the new plug. It cannot have damaged the engine.
pull the oily plug out and clean it in some solvent and try again, make sure the plug caps dont have oil on them

1999 VULCAN HAS OIL LEAKING AROUND THE SPARK PLUG DOWN A WEEP HOLE AND OUT THE BACK OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. WHAT IS CAUSING BUILD UP OF OIL IN THE SPARK PLUG WELL? REAR CYLINDER RIGHT SIDE PLUG

hi, sounds like the oil seal in the rocker cover has failed, remove the rocker cover and you will see a rubber seal, this seals the oil inside the cover, however when the seal fails around the spark plug hole, oil leaks into spark plug well and out of weep hole.

Its a 99 Oldsmobile silhouette... last feb i had a new intake manifold gasket put on. Then that june it just died.. Well my father in law has been looking at it.. Took the starter to advanced and its says...

I hate to say it but it sounds to me like it jumped time, or may have broke a timing belt. in that engine this would allow the pistons to actuate(pushing the oil out of the spark plug holes). but the cams are not turning so the engine will turn over but not fire. have him pull a valve cover, and see if the valves are moving as the engine cranks if they don't its probably a broken timing belt. if they do move, the timing belt probably stretched and jumped time at high speed causing the engine to no longer run. the backfire during cranking is probably due to the fact that the fuel delivery system is still functioning and the spark is erratic enough due to the lapsed timing that the ignition of the fuel in the combustion chamber(cylinder) is happening while the exhaust valve is open and is forcing the combustion out through the exhaust. i hope this helps

I'm using a Dewalt 2800 power washer and someone set it on its side. And now it will not start. The air cleaner is full of oil. I think there is oil in the carb. I took the air filter off and almost get it...

take the air filter off and wash in petrol.allow to dry,and put back on. then take the fuel bowl off and clean.turn fuel tap on and drain fuel from carby for a few seconds.turn fuel tap off.put fuel bowl back on.then take spark plug out and turn motor over,be care some oil might come out of hole.if the plug is oily then clean with petrol and dry.put spark plug back in. turn fuel tap on and start

Replacing the valve cover gasket, where do the "O" rings go? I didn't find any when I took it apart.

The four round rubber seals are for the spark plug holes. They prevent oil under the valve cover from getting out around the spark plugs. If you pull a plug and find that it is particularly oil soaked (not the part that goes into the head, but the part that you put the plug wrench on to remove it), that will tell you that those seals are leaking.
Hope this answers your question, and is helpful.

This morning I was taking my husband to work and all of a sudden my car which is a 96 toyota camry started spitting and sputtering and shakeing real bad. Well I went out there and took all the wires off...

Good news. Oil doesn't leak up out of the cylinder so the oil came from above~ probably a leak in the valve cover, and ran down along something else into the spark plug hole. That might sound crazy if you didn't see oil anywhere else but the route it took is probably hidden by other components. The oil would have fouled your plug and caused it to run that way. If it was blowing up out of the valve it would have been burnt .

Car/1990 Toyota Corolla

If Biggy1 has described it right, I think when you remove the WIRE to the spark plug ( not the plug itself ) and oil jumps out, there is a cylindrical seal that needs replacing and one does not need to even remove the cylinder head.
I have the same problem with my corolla. On the other hand if Biggy meant when removing the SPARK PLUG oil was on the contacts....
