Question about Makita Roofing Coil Nailer AN451

Nails jam by sending 2 nails at once

My makita roofing nailer sends two nails and jams. I had this fixed one and it took weeks. I need this now and want to try to fix it myself. The man that fixed it said there was a pin inside that gets out of place and causes a rebound that sends 2 nails. I don't know where the pin is and i need advice or a diagram. I don't want to just start taking it apart and have stuff jumping out everywhere.

You can find a parts list at the following address:

Rebuild kit # 192393-0 (search ebay for lowest price) will usually fix your problem. But for immediate/ temp fix try adjusting the depth thumb screw all the way down or all the way up and lower the pressure a little. Sometimes it helps to put the firing pin in a different position. I believe that fine scratches on the oring contact surfaces in the headvalve actually cause this problem. Before you install the rebuild kit, examine headvalve parts with magnifying lens and sand fine scratches with 300 - 400 grit sandpaper. Lube orings in the headvalve with silicone paste (Danco brand sold at Lowes in the plumbing department) it will help get a good seal. For best results replace the headvalve springs. I do not believe that they come in the kit. Good Luck with the repair.

Make Sure that you're not using corrode it rusty stick nails as that looks like a stick nail gun. So they can become dirty that is the gun many times I would use a carburetor cleaner or something that will clean something such as tar from a stick gun or a roofing and look at that and try that

My roofing nailer just started blowing air and wont shoot any nails

Most often this is a jammed nail or head of a nail jamming the driver. Inspect to see if there is a jam and if you can push the piston back up freely. If there is no jam and the piston moves up and down I would install a service kit - one of the O-rings has failed.
If you let me know the model I can get you the part number you will need.
Good luck

How can I stop a RN46-1 from jamming

We often see jamming with stainless wire collation - the problem is almost never the gun, it is because the stainless wire is much harder to shear off than regular steel. I would suggest trying another brand of nail and see if that helps.
Also, yes, the trigger is all that is required to change it to sequential, it is a very easy swap.

Bostitch framing nailer f21pl jammed 2 nails need to know how to clear the jam.

better to take it to a nailer repair shop, some nail jams can be very tricky, but if you are going to try to fix it. use a nail punch or other metal rod and with a hammer you might can remove the nails, DO NOT use a piece of metal that is larger than the nose.

Why does my roofing nail gun jamming, it would fire one nail and the hammer will remain out, so i toke a screw driver and push the hammer back in, and it still did the same thing

Simple test for piston jam. With nails removed and latch open, point nose of gun up then down. If the driver slides up and down in the cylinder as you move the gun, replace the piston oring (test gun for proper operation). If the piston stays in the upper most position as you move gun (push driver to top position), check lower bumper and bottom seal under the bumper (sheet). Replace as needed. If the lower parts are in good condition (good piston oring, lower bumper and sheet) , replace the 3 orings on the feeder piston. Good luck

My makita an451 roof nailer keeps shooting 2 nails I've tried 2 different brands of nails

Nailers that use strips of nails (one nail directly behind the other) will sometimes drive two nails at once and is caused by damage to the driver. The nails are so close together that the driver will hit the first and part of the second nail head. Coil nailers, as your an451, use nails seperated by welded wire making it very difficult the the driver to hit the second nail. Usually when a coil nailer shoots two nails, it is acutally the trigger valve that acutates twice (two very rapid fires). Two very rapid fires is caused by faulty trigger valve. I have seen a roofing coil nailer fire one nail and a second nail drops out of the gun. Caused by weak / malfunction of nail feeder or wire used to weld nails together is too thick.

I found the solution to the double shooting happens when the retainer ring on the feeder paw inside half of the coil nail holder. Part #92 (962112-6) retainer ring R-22. I found the clips broken in two of my guns. Now they work great.

Dont know what nails to use on my makita brad nailer

is that a model AF505? if it is, your problem may be the gauge. make sure you use 18 gauge nails, he 16 gauge are too big and will jam in the gun.
