Unit suddenly not recognized by computer

I have used this unit for a year on 2 different computers and suddenly it is not recognized as a device on any computer. It still charges and works but i cannot download the files. It does not show up as a USB device in 'My Computer'  When it worked and it was connected to the computer . the recorder would display 'pc'  This doesn't happen now. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Re: Unit suddenly not recognized by computer

Uninstall driver then turn off the PC then unplug the power cord from power socket, short its legs then leave it unconnected for 5min, then reconnect it to power socket and turn on PC and install driver it should work :)

let me know if that helped !!!

use different port or by using external port hub, it may be that your device jack is damaged.

Recognition of recorder

Does the computer recognize the Olympus DS-30 being connected to it at all? If not, do you happen to have another USB cable that you could try using? Either way, you should try connecting it to a different USB port on your computer, as you might have happened to connect it to one that doesn't work.

Won't record

I suggest that you to select Reset to Factory Defaults in the System menu to soft reset reset the unit or by pressing Delete and the power button and holding them down to hard reset. Good luck!

Device not recognized with computer

Seems like Polaroid's drivers are having problems with a lot of people. The fixya link below from 2011 recommends just using an audio cable and the Audacity program to transfer the sound from the device.

My Zoom H2 recorder is not recognized by my new computer with Windows 7. What can I do to solve this?

No solution, just a workaround. I have used the H2 with firmware 1.90 successfully with Windows 7, but lately the H2 is not recognized anymore. Built-in obsolescence maybe?
Anyway, I just take out the card and put it in a card reader. It is faster also. Card readers are cheap.

Olympus DS4000 says Memory Error

I had several cases lke this with clients. One of the dictations is corrupted. It's the "one" here that matters. When you connect the DS-4000 to a PC, it appears in your "My Computer" as a Removable Drive. Browse this drive, and you will find the dictations in one of the folders (A, B, C etc...) or they might be scattered between folder depending on how your user records.
Try to copy dictation manually from that drive to the matching folders on the PC (by default My Documents-->DSSPlayer-->Messages-->FolderA, FolderB..., although you might have changed that).

At some stage one of the dictation files will refuse to copy/paste: that's the corrupted one; however should should be able to save the others. Once you have salvaged all but one dictation, you can do a format of the card. In fact, I suggest you chage the card, as corruption is usually a sign of worst things to come...

Using this procedure, at least only one dictation will need re-dictated.

I hope this helps.

Cradle/USB malfunction?

It is not obvious that the cable should be used one way and if someone plugged the cable in wrong even once(this really doesn't take much pressure), it can damage the Female end of the connection. Make sure the arrows align on the recorder and cable and if it doesn't work it is most likely physical damage.
