Laptop shuts OFF on it's own

Dell 1537 studio shuts off on it's own especially when on line. Cooling fan does not run constantly. Is problem due to the fan or other?

I agree with solution 1 from dww0642. The fan is not the promblem. As for conflicting antivirus, i'm using a mcafee free trial which came with the computer and avast 4.8 pro but problem occured before that was installed. Registry Mechanic detected some problems i should remove but i need to purchase it, which I will do soon

O.K. guys thanks for the info, but lets skip the fan we've ruled that out. The computer shut off on it's own when on line, sometimes with in half hr.of logging on, What's that about??

Laptop fans DO NOT run constantly. They only turn on when booted up and once the laptop has reached a certain temperature. You should probably time how long for a shutdown, record your results. Let laptop cool for 10-15 between attempts. If it takes approximately same amount of time to shutdown between attempts it is very possible its overheating.
Other things like Viruses, software conflicts, and Harddrive problems can also be the culprit. take a look at the administrator event logs for any clue there. Event logs are in control panel under Administrator Tools.

I don't recommend trying to fix any overheating issue you may have, as that would entaiil disassembling your laptop. Unless you have a bit of experience in this, I would take it to a good repair shop.

Hope this helps you some. If so please rate my solution.

cpt_caveman. I am sorry to tell you that LAPTOP fans DO NOT run constantly. Laptops CPU's are designed as speed stepping. Which means the cpu starts at a much lower spped and runs slower when not being used heavily. to conserve energy on the battery. And because the CPU doesn't constantly run at full speed (like a desktop), it is unneccessary for the fan to run full throttle. Laptop are designed to conserve power, and the fire problem your speaking of was due to faulty batteries caused by the battery manufacturers.

If your going to offer a solution at least know what your talking about.

Correct, if its a store bought PC, the fans run @ whatever. Custom builds are nice because many motherboards have a "cool and quiet" feature in which you can adjust the fan speeds. As well as in power supplys. I apologize if my comments seemed rude, that was not my intentions. Only I have owned and run a Laptop repair facility for 8 yrs now, and been repairing laptops since 1997. And all laptops I have seen have variable fans which can slow down, speed up, and go completely off. If the fans stay on constantly, I would make sure to blow out any vents just to insure its not running a little hot all the time.

rebuttal....sorry to tell you...our HP pavilion...FANS RUN ALL THE TIME....bout 4-5 years old....Our brand new Toshiba...does NOT RUN ALL THE time....therefor the Q is prudent HOW OLD IS IT?
also desk tops DONT run at 100% as well you need to set them up 100% not that it matters but there mostly at 25-30 percent...now if your getting store bought computers Im not saying....I personally will never buy one...I build from the case up....sorry if i got you going wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i just replaced a dell studio 1537 motherboadr and the fan want even cut on at boot up or after it has been on awhile .... not sure if it has a thermostate that tells it to kick on or not , but i have known the fan to always cut on for a bit and speed up as the hard drive loads . then slow down once it reaches idel operation...i had tested another known fan working fan from another laptop and still didn't spin ...what could cause this issue a bad motherboard perhapes..

Hi, My name is Cristina, I have had my Dell Studio since May of last year. I have not been able to use my laptop. I can turn on my laptop use it for about 15 - 20 minutes and then it just shuts...

like most people , I'll bet when you use your laptop at times its on a bed or, like it's called, your lap. On many laptops the fan to cool it sucks air in from the bottom and if its being blocked the processor heats up quick and shuts down.

Studio 1537 upgrade from P8400 to T9400 problem!

First of all go to support.dell.com and click drivers and download. make sure you update al your driver especially video,
chipset and system software.
I've gotten this before and it might be memory issue with video when you start your system start tapping F12 and select the boot to Utility Partition or Diagnostics.select system test and and choose the extended test. google the error codes if any . I usually get this due to a video driver.
