DHCP Functional??

I have a 3210X print server, and it has software 6.1 build 12 (according to the sheet attached).  I have tried to do a setup with sw3,4 off (via serial port 2) and enable DHCP.  If I read my 'tcpdump' correctly, it isn't doing a DHCP.  Is there some magic switch setting to make this work?  I understand that I should turn on switch 4 to make the network connection work.  That prompted some appletalk packets (I turned on Appletalk) but not much else.  Setting up an IP address manually (I command) did some packets OK, but no DHCP.
The next step is to get the device to download the next version of firmware 32fp6132.hex (I assume)
