Question about E-Machines T2682 PC Desktop

T2682 emachine running fine video lite went yellow & HD also

System running fine for over a year, I had replaced bad MB and Power Supply year ago,,, just sitting there as if it went into screen saver mode with video monitor lite going yellow, and the HD lite stays on yellow,, I tried to see if could access files on the system for other computer, no good,, my messengers lost connection also..It will reboot and run normal for a short period of time which seems to get shorter with each reboot.. also,, must hold on button in to get system to shut down so I can reboot? Not sure where to start? I do have a pci video card on top of the on board video,, thinking I should pull video card and go with on board video first to see what happens,,not sure if this could be a memory issue? cpu over heat? any to get me started would be great... John

I took it down to just what is needed to post the mb and boot the system, it almost gets up to the desktop and then the mb fan shuts down and hd light comes on yellow, same for video monitor,,, so it same with or without pci video card,,, its got to be a ps or mb,,, i think,, ps just came in today will try and get back to anyone who responds to this,,, thanks, John

Did you disable onboard video in bios and install updated video card drivers?

The first thing you should do is remove the video card and try to boot the PC using the onboard video (video on the Motherboard) and see if that solves the problem. If it does, try putting the video card back in in a DIFFERENT PCI slot and try it again. Sometimes Windows loses its marbles about cards inserted into PCI slots. My nieces eMachine loses its marbles over the Wireless LAN card about once a year, so I just move it to a different slot (swap it with the phone modem card). If that makes it flaky again, try updating the video card drivers. If it doesn't help, your video card is shot.

If it isn't the video card, try taking out one memory chip at a time and booting with the first one in. If that doesn't do it, swap the memory chip with the other one and try booting it again. If needed, replace bad chips....

After that, it is probably the power supply or the MB itself. Swap out the power supply first. If it is not the power supply, then it is probably the MB, and you are SOL.

Even though the fan on the graphics card spins, it may still be the power supply. Try another power supply before anything else, its your cheapest option as well as a new motherboard will cost more

No boot, New PS, Green light on MB lights, No Fans running

Bottom line: Either your power supply or (hopefully not) the mother board has gone bad.
Replace power supply (remove old one), take to local independent computer shop, ask them for new unit. Should be around $50.00. - no more. After reinstall, if still no fans, boot, etc. Replace motherboard or buy a new machine. MB's installed probably will run you around $250.00-ish.
Good luck.

If you remove all the RAM fro the system and power it on, you should hear "Memory Error Beeps" if not, then it is usually Motherboard or CPU, for around $30.00 you can purchase a PCI POST code reader to try to pin the problem down further.
I am assuming from the post that all PCI cards (dial up modem especially) have been removed. Sounds like a bad MB or CPU, but if the video is integrated,( built on the motherboard, and not a seperate card, the memory is responsible for video also, and it maybe defective.

Emachine T2682 boots then dies

Nope, if the fan on any of the equipment stops, then its a power problem. Hightly suspect the motherboard is at fault loading down the power supply and even possibly burning out the power supply. I've seen it happen to many times.

Not booting, no power

There are 4 major components that can die:

1. Power supply.
2. Motherboard.
3. Processor.
4. Memory

It is more likely that the motherboard died to. Thing is that as you buy the components to fix the problem you might get to a cost of a new computer all together.

Restore disks

Alot of manufactures will include restore disks with the pc. However if you don't have them anymore you will need to order them from the manufacture either on-line or over the phone. Hope this helps.
