Ipod only works wih a power source

My ipod is only working when it is connect to a power outlet. When it is not connected it doesn't work and only displays a flickering image of the apple icon.

Well there is a remote chance it's a battery issue, but most likely you have a broken logic board. If you're not covered under the warranty you can try to open it and make sure the battery is connected properly. There are iPod repair guide websites, that show how to open the iPod classic and replace components.

you may have to reset everything.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and Volume Down button simultaneously for at least eight seconds or until the Apple logo appears. You may need to repeat this step.

If the above step did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.

Reset Click Wheel Ipod (newer ipods including resetting an ipod video)
1. Flip the Hold switch on and off and make sure it ends up no longer on hold.
2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons (center Button) until the Apple logo appears (may take 5-11 seconds, and you may need to repeat this step)
If this not work for you try plugging your ipod into computer or wall power


Resetting iPod (with dock connector)
Most problems with iPod can be solved by resetting it.
To reset iPod:
1 Connect iPod to a power outlet using the iPod Power Adapter.
2 Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again).
3 Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons for at least 5 seconds, until the
Apple logo appears.
If Your iPod Won't Turn On or Respond
* Make sure the Hold switch is off.
* If you're using the iPod Remote, make sure the remotes Hold switch is off.

My ipod will not switch off, and although in play mode nothing is heard from an external source. THis seemed to go wrong when I connected to outlet in my car, where it has worked beautifully many times.

As to the sound issue, can you check if it is currently set to mute mode?

I have just bought a second hand ipod nano generation 3 and it worked fine until I clicked onto the reset settings. It now seems to have locked and i have no idea what to do ? PLEASE HELP

Ipod won't charge


It means the hard drive is crashing. If it's clicking it means there is a problem with the hard drive. Try restoring your ipod or reformatting it.

iPod is locked up If iPod is locked up it will not charge, reset iPod. When you reset iPod all your songs and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Tip: iPod will not wake automatically if you connect to a 4-pin FireWire port. Press the Select button (center of wheel) to wake iPod.
Faulty cable If something is wrong with the FireWire or USB cable that came with iPod, it may not supply any power to charge the battery. I connect Ipod to computer it will not sync
