I have the same problem with a Dell Dimention 9200 about 3 years old. Every now and then it crashes and re starts itself., or it crashes and continuously restarts itself. The system events log logs it as a System Crash.

Novatech will not touch the PC because it is a Dell. I am now stuck with an unreliable PC.

Incidently when it dies wirk it works for about 3 weeks then crashes. I am running XP Media Centre on a Dual Core PC. All cooling is working correctly and all updates are current.
Shutdown your computer. Find a known good memory module (borrow from a friend, buy some or if you have another computer check if they are using the same types of memory module then use it on the problematic computer) also, make sure your CPU's temperature is not to hot. You can check this by going to BIOS and then check the PC health status. Make sure the CPU temp doesn't exceed 60 degrees celcius. another possible source of the crashing or rebooting is bad hard drive. another one is bad power supply unit. Just try to isolate the problem by testing known good parts on your computer.
It could be driver problem. But if even almost all mode of boot doesn't help. Your options are repair, restore to factory settings or reinstalls depends on the features your system has for recovery. In old ways we just reformat it and reinstall all, backup cd always on standby.
If harddrive has a fault like many bad sector. We replace the drive.
As for your other system I will say that sometimes updates are not helpful enough. In old days of xp we are not updating, commonly we just update antivirus definitions. We experienced slow down and system crashes. We just install some enhancement software in exchange for some features of xp.
If I miss something just post a comment. Regards

JBLPro speakers wont work. I've used my Compac JBL's for 5 yrs. with my Dell PC 2400. Today after trying Magic Jack on same Dell, my speakers wont come on. I've checked the wiring. It seems right. The 2 buttons that you press for volume are not turning on the sound. (the error message says there is no device., and I need new drivers) My computer friend says I don't need a new driver. But he thinks there is no power going from the subwoofer to the 2 speakers. I think that there never was. Just the output speaker and the input wires going from the subwoofer to the speakers The only power goes to the wall oulet from the subwoofer only. How has it worked for so long with out their own power.??? Where is an on/off switch? Where is a power hookup? HELP. Thanks. PS I removed the Mgic Jack! Judy's Place
