Question about Kenwood KFC-6982ie Car Mid-Range Speaker

Powering 4 6x9 speakers, need amp

I have 2 sets of kenwood kfc-6982ie's (90w RMS, 500w max, 4 ohm), I have a sony headunit thats suposed to put out 52w to each speakers but I also have 2 12" kicker cvr's powered with a 750w RMS kicker amp so the low bass is deafening compared to the mids and highs, I want to get an amp specifically for the 6x9's. I know I need at least a 2 channel amp but would it still be surround sound if I don't get a 4 channel amp? also what would be the perfect amp, or amps for the job? Thanks.
PS I might return the front 6x9s for 6 1/2s if I can't fit them in the front of my car, havent installed those yet.

yeah I think I would go for the 100rms to each speaker so I can match the mid and low bass evenly, and thanks for the info about head units, but when the box says the kenwoods can handle 90 RMS and 500 max, does that mean 90 on each speaker? or 90 for both?

Hi firstof all your deck isnt really putting out 52 watts x4 more like 17-22w rmsx4 ,companies like to throw out some crazy numbers it seems. If your into Kenwood try out a KAC-8404 4-channel on the mids/highs that will put 50 w x4 rms at 4 ohms or if you wanna go a lil louder try the kenwood x600f that will throw 100w rms on each 6x9 at 4 ohms no problem. My system is very similar to yours but running 4 pioneer 5x7's in all the doors and powering it with the 8404 its loud and clean ,fan cooled and no problems at all. My subs are a pair of 15's soundstream t-4's powered by an Alphasonik pma2500a its throwing 800w rms on each sub running in stereo at 2 ohms.It can drown out the mids if i set it that way but my mids /highs cant take as much power as your kenwoods can or else id step up to the x600f too.

What amp would be better to use with what speakers/sub? I have a KAC-7202 kenwood 920W maximum power (150wX2 RMS, 4ohms) (230wX2 RMS 2ohms) and then the other amp I have is a Alpine MRP-M500 mono power...

I'm using that Alpine right now for 2-12" subs and I have compared it to 6 or 7 other amps this month and most were 4 channel 150Watt/Channel Bridged to 300Watts x 2 and found the Alpine to be superior in both sound quality and loudness. The Alpine has also not turned off even with full volume for hours at a time, Very solid amp I was very surprised due to it's size!

Two questions. 1) can my amplifier over-power this sub; kicker L7 15 inch dual voice coil 1,000 watts RMS wired for 2 ohms? 2) is my amp too small for this sub-woofer? thank you for your time.

No, your not over powering your L7, your underpowering your subwoofer.
Your Kenwood is
500W x 1 at 4ohms [20-200kHz 0.5% THD]
900W x 1 at 2ohms [100Hz 1.1% THD]
Your L7 is:
Max Rec Amplifier Power (WATTS PEAK/RMS)* 2000/1000But its ok for your subwoofer, alteast your not giving it to much stress. But personaly, get another mono amplifier that would match your subwoofers rating.

I have brought these speakers, when i turn the headunit up above about 3 quaters of the way they distort, they are running off a 4 channel 4ohm amp with 400watt rms but they do it with the gain on the amp...

If you run the power amp at a very low setting it makes the amp subject to noise and distortion. You want around a 60% setting.

Speakers also need to have proper loading, that is in a cabinet or enclosure that is kind of matched to them. If the amp is rated at a true 400 Watts RMS then the speakers should be at least 800 Watts as they "cheat" on those SPEAKER ratings and MANY A SPEAKER IS BLOWN AS A RESULT.

What kind of amp do i need for 2 kicker ds6930 140 watts peak and 2 ks6930 6x9 watts peak 150 and 3 Kicker KS350 3-1/2 40 watts each peak

600 Watt to 1000 Watt 4 CHANNEL AMP for the four 6X9's and a less powerfull 4 Channel amp thats at least 200Watts to 400Watts peak for the 3 3-1/2 kicker speakers. Because if you try to connect the 3 3-1/2 speakers to only 1 4 channel amp that the 6X9 speakers are on you risk of overheating the amp and blowing the speakers too!!!

find the rms rating of the sub and compare it to the amp.if the rms of the amp is higher than the sub you have enough power to push the sub.if its lower look at the rms of the amp if it can be bridged.you would like to see the rms matched to the sub or subs if you have enough power.

Support Question about RMS

you are going to need an amp that can supply the right amount of rms power to make it sound good. these sony subs are rated for 380 watts rms. so in order to find an amp that will supply two, you must multiply that figure by two. so you will need an amp that can supply around 500 to 750 watts continuously (or rms). also you are going to want an amp that is either class d or class ab rated. these amps are built to push subwoofers exclusively and will give you the best efficiency and sound out of your subs. you will also want to get an amplifier is a monoblock amp, and not a stereo amplifier. make sure the amp can put out that rms rating at 2 ohms as two 4 ohm speakers equal 2 ohms wired in parallel. i have a kenwood kac9152d that puts out about 2000 watts max at 2 or 1 ohms (900 watts rms) that i used with my two sony xplod 10's for about 2 years. it was kick ***! now i dont know if you need that much power but they will handle it as long as you dont push them too hard for long periods of time, otherwise you might end up blowing them up! (depending on the box size that is, and the quality of it as well...)

i have years of car audio installation experience and can help with setting up and wiring any mobile entertainment system you can imagine. may i ask what kind of music you listen to and what kind of box do you have for these subwoofers?
