Question about Motorola Mobility i880 Cellular Phone
How on earth do I download songs to this thing!? I've got everything I need and no one seems to know how to use it! Please HELP.
Hi my name is michael. i had the same problem like solution #2
i solve my problem by first getting the song i wanted on the sd disk first and took the following steps after.
1. take the sd card out and then back into the driver.
2. wait a second and the (removable disk) window will appear. select the( open folder to view files unsing window explorer).
3. the next window will pop up and will display folders, audio, image, music, podcast, video, and all the songs you downloaded. highlight all the song by holding right click and release when done.
4. now in the upper left tab right click edit scroll down to (move to folder) and click on it.
5. now, ( move items) will appear. right click on the (+) next to the driver the sd card is in and then highlight music
6. now at the bottom of that window right click move
7. exit out all the window and remove sd card. place the sd card in your phone and then wait a second and select option #2
8. now choose your song and play. the music player in this phone will only look in that folder for songs. if not in that folder it will not find it
there may be an easyer way to do this all i now it work and there is no money envolved.

I called In to Sprint and Motorola ..There seems to be a major problem with this phone. Our company has 5 of them and not a one will read the memory card...so there is not a solution until Motorola decides to fix it. Sorry for the bad news

I have tried 3 data cables and they sometime work and some times don't(most of the time don't). don't bother with them. here is the BEST solution. go to walmart, buy a USB card reader. they cost anywhere from $7 to $30 depending on the one you want. i got mine for $9.99. Make sure it takes sd or mini sd cos you will need to use the adapter that came with the card. Put it in your computer and download music onto it. MP3 works best. but i880's also take other formats so i would try them too. put the card back in the phone, go to the music player under the main menu and you should have the songs. e-mail me if you have any problems and i will be glad to assist. the Hard part, will be trying to get the songs to play as your ring tone. That is a long an tricky process. ill e-mail the step by step process to anyone that wants it. firstname.lastname@example.org

Very Simple Solution. I have the same phone.
First you need a Data Cable that connects your phone to a USB port on your PC.
Secondly, go to http://idenphones.motorola.com/iden/support/software/html/mp3_software.html
and download the mp3 loader.
Its very easy to use. good luck.
btw, I found a data cable on ebay for $5

Plug mp3 player in to usb. Does your computer recognize mp3 player? If
yes, than go to "start menu" than "my/computer", than you will see
drive folder with mp3 player. Leave this window up.
Now find your music folder with songs. Click song file, drag file to mp3 player drive folder and drop it in there. It will be added on your mp3 player.
Another way mabey easier, is to open media player, click sync device, Now media player can read mp3 player. In media player, find your songs in library or the folder that has them. click on "songs" or song file and drag it to the right side of media player and add it to the list of songs that will be added to mp3 player. Once all the songs are in the list on the right side, you can click the button at the bottom and they will be added to mp3 player.

Same as the people above said - I have the same phone I880 (I love it)! You need to convert your songs, I did from my CD collection. No I did not D/L songs. Just converted my favorites from CD's to MP3's then you can open the two windows (after you connect the cable - the easiest and fasted way) and yes- drag and drop between the two windows). My phone hooks up on window J: your's might be different. Before i had the cable then I used the Memory card my phone and installed it into the MicroSD stick that came with your phone. Put that in your PC's sims card slot. But the Cable is SO much EASIER! Just Drag and drop from window created on Desktop or wherever to your Music Folder on phone card after conversion (Must format card prior to using to create folders.) I have had up to 61 songs holding - depending on lenghs of songs. Some are long...
If you are here then you can take the time to Google on how to convert. It is a learning experience. I did it. It is worth it and great. Good phone! I am now checking my e-mail from it- just learned that one. No-do not feel stupid, these documents didn't come with phone. just learn as you go. that is what you are doing by reading these pages. that is why i am here. :-) Good Luck!

I've recently purchased an i880 and here are the steps to accomplish several issues. (also works for i870, I have one of them too):
*make sure your card is formatted using the phone itself
*go into settings and click on "memory card"
*click on USB connection
*be sure it has "Reader Enabled" selected.
With those steps, you should be able to load music onto the phone with a data cable.
*note: Be sure you put your music in the "Music" folder. If it doesn't exist, just create it on your computer. Files in the "Audio" folder aren't detected my the media player.
If you don't have a data cable, which I've acquired recently, you can put your micro SD in a lesser expensive mp3 player after the phone has formatted it. You should be able to open it up as a folder just as you would if you had used an adapter or a jump drive. From this point you can drag and drop files easily.

What do i do

This phone is only compatable with amr files. you need to remove the sim card, put it into the SD card, put the sd card into your computer, and put an amr music file into the music folder. Use Switch sound file converter.
This is what should make it work, however, it doesn't anyway...

Gentlemen with i880/885/580s:
I helped design that phone, here is your issue, FIRST stick your brand new virgin(or reformatted) microSD card into the phone.
It will re-format it with a MUSIC directory(few others also).
Now the easiest thing is to stick the card back in a PC card reader, and place your MP3s in the MUSIC directory(<32 letters on name).
That is it. Then go to Media center or Music Player.
They work with microSD cards all day long.

1) Make sure that you have successfully loaded music to your phone. I know that it plays MP3's. The music that you are copying to the phone might not be compatible with the phone player.
2)Please be advised that although you downloaded music to your phone, you can only listen to it and not use them as ringtones.
To use the songs as ringtones, you would have to get the phone "unlocked".
Yes it will cost you money and I think that your cellular company might frown upon unlocking the cell phone.
To get it unlocked, go to a place that deals with cell phones. If you live in the Toronto/GTA area, you can go to the Pacific Mall on Kennedy and Steeles and look around.

You need to purchase a card reader to load items onto the memory card (they run for around $10 at a decent electronics store) or if you have a digital Camera that uses SD memory, you can use the card adapter and use the camera as a card reader to load the music onto it.
just make sure that you load the music into the MUSIC file, otherwise your phone will not ba able to find it

I just got my i880 on the 28th. I was able to put songs on my phone. There are a couple of different ways in doing this. One is to use bluetooth, fast and simple. The other is to use the data cable but your files MUST be in mp3 format and have a file name less than 32 characters. A great forum to use is www.howardforums.com has lots of useful information. My friend placed my songs on my phone. He put the card into the adapter which then went into the USB cable and downloaded the music right into the card that way. You can also connect to the phone with the USB data cable just have to have everythings saved and named correctly. Check out that forum and see if that helps at all :)
