Question about Cameras

My Canon ZR200 camera will not eject the tape. I never had this problem before. Camera has never been dropped but all of a sudden the message to eject tape showed up but it won't do it. After repeated emails to Canon it is evident that they are not going to give me the info to remove the tape myself. They want me to send it in (for a price to be determined after I send it in) or to trade up at a cost. I don't want to do either, just get the tape out of camera. I don't even care if it never works again as I will never take a chance on this happening again. Help please>

Battery is charged. I have tried with and without power cord. Even changed the warer battery. After reading all the posts on the internet about others having problems with their cameras I have already tried the shaking and tapping. Nothing works. What I am looking for is directions on opening the camera and removing the tape. It is out of warranty. I am never going to use this piece of junk again and take a chance of having the same problem but I do need to get the tape out. As of now the my customers tape is worth more to me than the camera. I am not at liberty to send the camera to the repair center with the tape still in it because of customer request. If you have instructions on opening the camera please advise me of a post, web site or I can give you my email & you can send directly. Whichever is the easiest.I just need help or I will find a way to open it right or wrong. Thanks....Leon

Does anyone have the help I need to get a service manual for a Canon ZR200 digital Mini DV video camera. I need help in opening the camera to get the tape out. It will not eject the tape and I need to get it out for a customer. By their request I cannot ship this camera with the tape in it. I don't care about the warranty or if it never runs again, I just need the tape.

I'm camera tech and will guide you to get tape out.
Please unscrew all screws around camcorder (as you said, you just want tape and do not want camera) and apart its cabinet, unplug LCD flexible wires, take off front cabinet that has mic connections unplug this connector, now unscrew camera lens assembly and unplug 2 flexible wires from main board, unplug viewfinder flexible wire and unscrew it, now take out all these things and here you have main board, now unscrew main board, unplug connectors from mechanism (probably its 4 connectors) and take out main board, here you will see bottom side of mechanism, unscrew it and take it out mechanism from camcorder chassis, now you need 3 or 4.5 volt dc supply ( you can use any mobile charger/ cd player charger/ any charger that has up to 4.5 volt dc output) now connect charger output plus-minus to loading motor terminals that is situated in corner of mechanism near video head, loading motor will rotate and unload the mechanism until tape compartmnet ejects. take out tape.
If tape mechanism does not unload or stuck some where during unloading, unscrew tape compartment and take out mini dvd tape. Be careful the tape do not cut as its loaded on guides and video head and pich roller assembly.
You can email me (good qaulity) snaps of camcorder at for further guidance and I will mark necessary parts that requires to be removed.

First of all check out is the battery charged or not.also try connecting the camera directly to the wall power outlet and then try ejecting.if this does not helps then.Turn off the camera.remove the battery and hold the camera tightly in both your hands and shake it vigourlsy for couple of minutes.please do it carefully.and then check out is it ejecting the tape.if still not then, keep the camera on and eject button continuisly pressed then tap the sides of the camera slowly for couple of minutes .if this all does not help then.take a thin knife and insert it slowly in the area where the tape is inserted and press the eject button.donot insert the knife very much in.just oneforth of knife.
if still not helped will have to open the camera.but that will void your you can send it to service center or you can send it to repair online.i have one site they give free reparing estimates without charging for the checking.only will be charged for reparing.

When i ejecting the cassette in it retuning it whith a sound pit , pit , pit, pit,

This sounds to me like tape slack. Try to open the tape path of your cassette carefully and wind the loose tape back until you regain tension. Close back the cover and retry. In case the same effect happens again, the tape department of your ZR200 is faulty. Only well schooled stuff should open your Cam because of delicate parts inside!!!
Best wishes

I can no longer get the camera to accept a tape. It ejects the tape after I insert it. The tape housing never closes back into position like it should.

the camera just could have worn out, fixing this would be pretty hard.... but if you want to unscrew the screw and make sure all the connections are intact and find the tape head and wipe it off with clean gym shorts. then make sure all the gears are in the right place

Message reads eject. won't eject

My camera did the exact same thing. I called Canon tech support and they advised to unplug power cord, remove large main battery, and remove smallbackup battery. The small back up battery is under a small door under the main backup battery. With everything disconnected, turn camera to "camera" and then to "vcr" and then to off. Wait a few seconds. Put everything back together and try to eject again. The tech said that resets all the mechanical parts. However, it did not work for me. They now want me to send it to them for a paid repair. I have done some research on the internet and this is a VERY commom problem and it usually costs about $150 to correct via Cannon. Many times the problem occurs again. I am very very frustrated. I pulled my camera out last night to get it ready as my wife is 9months into her pregnancy. Now, I have to send my camera away for 5-9 days. Really really upset.
