Question about Toshiba 52HM95 52" HDTV Projection Television

1 Answer

Toshiba 52HM95 HDTV has a red banner on top that won't go away...

It scrolls across the top indicating that a satellite or cable company (I have cable,) is conducting a test that gives a past date. It seems to be sponsored by KNST in Tucson, AZ. I live in AZ and my provider is COX cable, but they've never heard of this problem before. The reason I think it's related to the television itself and not the cable company is because it doesn't show up when the TV's channel info, or volume bar is on-screen, just when it disappears. I've read the manual from front to back, but can't find a solution...somebody help,

PLEASE!!!

P.S. I'm using their cable card but no antenna. Thanks anyone, in advance.

Wow, you guys are fast...thanks. There's only one other set in the house that uses straight coax, with no cable cards or boxes and it doesn't show the banner. No neighbors's sets don't show it either, which is why I think it's somehow tied to the set and/or the cable card. We subscribe to one movie tier and the expanded digital which gives us the HD programming. The Toshiba uses the built-in "TV Guide" feature so we can see the programming in grid fashion. Whenever we change the channel or adjust the volume, the banner disappears while the other info. is displayed, but promptly returns after channel/volume disappear. Needless to say, it's been very frustrating. I've tried unplugging the set and re-doing the setup, but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated, thanks again.

Thanks for all the assistance, asnowman. Closed captioning was off. If it were turned on, the banner disappears. I performed a full system reset for the television via the configuration menus and the banner finally went away. Thanks again for the help.

Have you tried to see if is associated with the Closed Captioning. Maybe the set is in "TEXT" mode. or you could try turning to CC1 and see if it competes whith the banner. Then turn CC off.

Javawing,

It is a good thing to have your set back to normal.
I was willing to try anything to resolve your set's issue.

Again, congratulations.

I have a toshiba TV, model 52HM95. The picture is flickering and vibrant colors, especially red, look odd. It's hard to describe, but it looks similar to an infrared image.

depends what source you use. if it is a hdtv source you might have defect cables or worse/wrong connection. if you use the built in tuner for tv channels might antenna signal has problem or even connector too. check different video (picture) sources like the antenna in, video in, y/c (chroma) in etc to clarify it is not the tv itself. if this can be excluded then the tv has a problem, please let it then check by your local service.

PICTURE IS OUT WHEN I TURN THE TV ON THE RED & GREEN LIGHTS FALSH

Most Likely you need to replace your bulb. On Page 99 of the owners manuel is the LED indications chart. (you can download the manuel here) You are probably having indication number 3, which means the bulb is done. You can find new bulbs on Amazon and e-bay. I recommend you buy the Toshiba brand bulb and not a knock-off, I have heard that they may not last as long and do not look as good.

No audio on one channel

I've seen simmilar problems with the toshiba cable card compatability.. however we could never solve (replacing all parts, etc). It is either the tuner of the television malfunctioning at a very specific frequency, a very specific interference, or a programming/software issue between toshiba and cable provider. The first is repairable with parts, the second two are not good. With either you'd have to keep complaining to the manufacturer and cable company, both of which will likely get you now where. They make more $ on that cable box..

What cables are you using? Some TV's and DVD players have options to set your audio source. My DVP5982 I have to set it to HDMI digital audio, check to see if you have that on your TV.
