Kenmore gas stove Gas leak

I have a Kenmore 317B6035 (gas top stove) that seems to be leaking gas from outside and or inside the stove. I took all the lines coming up from the floor and flex line, shut off valve included and pipe doped them then tightened away. all seemed well. until I smelled gas again and called the gas company. They said I got a gas leak in the stove it seems. They were not sure, but suggested I shut off the gas and find the gas leak inside the stove. Hope there is an easy fix! LOL! hate to buy a new stove if all I need is an intenal gas line or pressure valve. Do I start taking it apart or is there a common problem with this brand or model that is known? Thanks!

SOURCE: constant gas smell. had PG&E

i have a 2 year old stove, and i smell the gas every time i walk by it, i when on a mission to find it, and it was coming from the safety valve in side the oven, right where the burner sits on. open the oven door when all the house doors and windows are close and smell it and check if is coming from the in side of the oven, not all gas leaks are from the same place, that's like a hands on job, to find a gas leak. you can also check every valve with some soupy water this are the ones that suplie gas to the burners.

SOURCE: can fix Gas leak smell in GE Eterna stove: Model EGR3000EH1BB

If it was used with LP and you are using it with natural, did you change everthing back over to natural gas settings? Orfices, regulator cap, and oven orfice?
It could be a pressure issue.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

SOURCE: smell gas

On the bottom of the oven on the inside you will find an igniting bar. It is rectangular and usually just has one or two screws in it. This is your problem, switch it out and it will work fine.

Hi,
Take a spray bottle and mix up a solution of strong dish soap and water... then spray down all of the connections in the gas line...with the gas turned on and the room well ventilated.
There will be bubbles from the leaking gas where the leak is. Proabably all you will need to do is tighten the connection that is leaking...

My gas stove seems to have what i would call a after burn

If it is just short final flare, it is probably just the gas still in the supply pipe to the burner. That last bit of gas will burn off rapidly right after the valve is turned off.

Gas smell when using and not using

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you

f the pilot light on your stove goes out, natural gas may build up in your stove. If your pilot light has gone out, open the kitchen windows and doors for 15 minutes to let the gas dissipate safely then relight the pilot light. Do not relight the pilot light immediately -- striking a match could cause an explosion.
Gas Leak

  • If you can smell the sulfur-like or rotten egg smell of gas, there may be a gas leak inside or outside your home. You might also hear a hissing sound coming from the stove or another appliance or from a pipeline. Outside gas leaks may kill or stunt nearby vegetation. Signs of carbon monoxide poisoning include nausea, dizziness, fatigue and other flu-like symptoms.

f you still smell gas after relighting the pilot light, don't hesitate. Leave your home, along with the rest of your family and pets, then call your utility company or 911 from a safe location. Leave the doors and windows open behind you, especially if the odor is strong or you can hear the hissing of a gas leak. Do not turn appliances or lights on or off or use a phone in your home. Do not strike a match or use a lighter, either. Prevention

Gas smell by back of stove and burner amana model arg7302ww had applicance repair guy that used "lighter" and said no leaks, $65, and still smell gas in both spots...enough to make me dizzy,...

Firstly, The guy who tested with a lighter needs reporting to the professional body that qualfies gas engineers (In the UK he would have to be "CORGI registered" I presume you have similar in the US). Had he found a substantial leak with his lighter he could have exposed you to a lethal explosion.

Here is a vers safe ameture way to see if you have a leak:

First: Vevtilate the room so there is no smell of gas, open all the windows and doors and let the air blow through. If there is any hint of a gas smell, just call out a gas emergency service.

It's unlikely taht your leak is that bad and if you are happy that lighting the stove is not going to cause an explosion, do the following:

  • Turn the gas off at the main
  • Immediately, go to the stove and light the smallest burner
  • Time the interval between lighting and the flame dying out for lack of gas
  • Turn the burner control to off
  • Turn the main back on
  • Light ALL the burners (It may take a moment) to ensure any air is evacuated from the system
  • Turn OFF all the burners
  • Return to the main and turn that off
  • Wait 30 minutes to an hour
  • Without turning the main back on, turn on the small burner and time the interval it ramains lit again.
  • Turn the control to OFF

The time it took the burner to go out immediately after turning off the gas and the time it took after your 30-60 minute wait SHOULD be the same.

If it took less time to go out after the wait period, it's because some gas leaked out somewhere.
If the time was the same you have no leak.

If this demonstrates you DO have a leak, my advice would be to call out the idiot who tested the stove the first time and go through the test with him. Then, demand a refund on pain of you reporting him for a health and safety violation if you don't get your money back. Now throw him out of the house.

Call out someone who is more competent (Shouldn't be difficult, a trained chimp would probably out perform this guy!)

You can test the new guy's work the same way before he leaves too!

There is NO WAY that a leak like this should force you into a replacement stove unless someone can demonstrate what the failing component is and that costs more to replace than a new stove.

Hope all the above helps. Please drop a comment on this thread to let me know how you got on, or if you need any further advice

Small gas leak smelled inside house from GE Adora (just 2 yrs old). Have moved stove and have put soapy water with paint brush on every connection including regulator...don't see any leak evidence...any...

You may have to use dish soap straight, do not use the brush. I use an old spray bottle and dish soap straight, not watered down, to find my leaks. Gas is a very low psi. Soapy water will not bubble up. It can and will just be pushed out of the way. Do not forget any other gas appliances in the house, hot water heater, stove, any thing that uses gas. Please check all. Recheck your stove and even any connections inside, on/off valve etc. Hope this helps Fixya up.

Gas odor

then u probably have a leak did you test for leaks?

Mix some dish soap any water and brush it onto the connections...bubbles mean a leak, if its not the connections you did and the pipes are not new but the unit is then it could be the unit.

test any connection you can get too.
