Question about Toshiba Gigabeat MEGF40S MP3 Player
On my old computer the device worked well. I recently bought a new computer (using Windows Vista). I downloaded the Gigabeat Program with no problem - the program opens to the Gigabeat Room and it recognizes the music on my PC and on CD's, but it does not allow me to open the gigabeat device (to see all my music on my MP3). What can I do to get my computer to recognize the Gigabeat Device so that I can get back to putting music on it??
The solution is simple. Simply Run both Gigabeat watcher and giga-room programs as administrator if u have windows vista.
How to do this :
Click on start in the taskbar at the bottom right of your screen,
then click on all programs,
then click on the Toshiba Gigaroom Folder,
then right click Gigabeat watcher and click on "Run as Administrator"
then right click "Gigaroom" and click on Run as Administrator
and then look in the bottom right of the taskbar, the little Gigabeat watcher symbol should be there with a green square instead of grey. If its green then it means Vista has recognised your gigabeat and u can now transfer music to it via gigaroom. i hope this helps people as i was on the verge of buying XP myself again... Peace all and HAPPY GIGABEATIN!

I have Vista and A Toshiba Gigabeat medf20 and gigabeat room 3.0 U.S.
The solution i've found was to change the compatibility mode to run the program as an administrator.
select the windows button
then all programs
then TOSHIBA gigabeat room 3.0
right click on gigabeat room 3.0 and select properties
select the Compatablitly tab
check Run this program in compatibility mode for
select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
Next Check the Run this program as an administrator
Click okay and re open the program.

Here is a good link for updating all gigabeats. www.gigabeat.com.au/support.htm Just follow the f-series links for the f20, f40 etc. Then download the version 3 software. It's easy and updating the actual gigabeat is a clear walkthrough though mine would NOT update. It said 'can't update' in the window but it works FINE on my vista home premium pc which would not tolerate the old version 2 original disk that came with the player.

I have almost all of the same problems, only difference, I am using XP. I have been trying to get this thing to work for 4 hrs today. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I do see the unit in the computer but Gigabeat room does not open. I click on the icon on the desktop, the system thinks for a few seconds, then nothing. Any sugestions? Thanks

I came across this link, its a firmware / software update.
Install this and vista should recognize gigabeat.
Vista does not recognize ANYTHING, if you have XP then KEEP IT.
I have learned about vista's compatibility issues the hard way,
and now im stuck with Vista and lovely payments from Dell.

The solution is simple, install xp on your main pc, you'll have a better performance and no softwware-problems, i now vista looks "pretty" but it's not very functional yet

Download the Gigabeat room 3.0 software (google it and find a megaupload link to the software) adn the Gigabeat should now be functional with Vista. The only problems i am having is that the Room does not always recognize when the Gigabeat is connected. Other than that, the 3.0 version is much better than previous ones.
