Question about Frigidaire FRS26ZSG

1 Answer

Freezing freezer My frigdaire side-byside keeps freezing up in the evaporator section, the heater is at 22 ohms, and there no power to it. I was looking at the wiring diagram and found that the wire comes from the defrost timer through the defrost thermostat. I was wondering were the timer was and how to test it. Thanks for any help you can give. Dave ps Model#FRS26ZGEW4

Arctic air freezer building up ice but not freezing

It is a defrost problem. Either the defrost timer is not working or the defrost heater is shorted out. You will need to ohm out the heater. It should have close to infinite ohms. If "open" then that is your problem.

Won,t get cold freezer side not freezing it is a ge side by side . ice is present at the back of freezer side

The problem is most likely the defrost heater element(s) and/or the defrost timer. The defrost heater element(s) are located with the evaporator core behind the access panel inside of the freezer, and can be removed, tested with an ohm meter, (any reading other than infinity would most likely mean the heater element is functional) and replaced if necessary. The defrost timer can be located inside of the refrigerator, or outside of the refrigerator behind the front kick panel, or behind the rear access cover on the back of the refrigerator.

Usually if the evaporator core is freezing up and not allowing air to flow through the evaporator core, (necessary for the system to function properly) then the defrost timer is most likely working and the defrost heater element(s) would most likely be at fault.

Always place a towel on the bottom of the freezer and use a blow dryer to defrost the evaporator core and never use any sharp or hard objects to pick away the ice or the evaporator core can be damaged and the refrigerant will be leak from the system.

I have included some images to help assist you including an image of a defrost timer that is located inside of the refrigerator, and a new defrost heater element or defrost timer can be purchased from an appliance parts distributor.

Let me know if you require any further assistance.

Will a burned out defrost heater cause the refrigerator section of the side-by-side Frigidaire to stop cooling? I have relpaced both the thermostate and the defrost control. Frige still not...

Good day,
Only if there is a build up of frost on the evaporator coil behind the rear panel in the freezer section.
I don't know what thermostat your describing, but the one controlling the defrost system is mounted on top of the evaporator coil. it looks somewhat like this.

adfbe4b.jpg
It must work. It can be tested with an ohm meter as long as it is cold. It should read zero ohms. As well the main heater can be tested with a meter. It should read 35 ohms or less. If either one tests bad, replace.
Once again, this approach is only for a situation where the evaporator coil is iced up. If not......
Other causes could be the fan motor not running. It is in the same area.

Lastly, there is a motorized damper located in the top left side of the fresh food compartment. It should be throttled open to allow cold air into the food compartment from the freezer.

Refrigerator side not cooling, but feezer is still freezing

DEFROST HEATERS IN THE FREEZER. IF THERE IS FROST ON THE BACK WALL INSIDE THE LOWER AREA OF THE FREEZER SECTION. YOU THEN HAVE A DEFROST PROBLEM. THE HEATER IS THE MOST COMMON. REMOVE THAT PANEL AND DEFROST WITH HAIR DRYER. THIS FROST IS BLOCKING THE AIR FLOW TO THE REF. SIDE. AFTER THIS IT WILL WORK FOR 10-21 DAYS WITH OUT REPLACING THE DEFROST HEATER. 95 PERCENT CHANCE. JUST REPLACE THE HEATER SOON AFTER DEFROSTING SO YOU DONOT HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN.

Freezer side still freezing but frig side not cooling at all.

The defrost heater is located on the evaporator coil (located in the freezer compartment) and is designed to melt the frost from the coils. If there is power getting to the heater and it will not get hot, the defrost heater is most likely faulty. It should have a resistance of 20-50 ohms in most cases. Part number=> WR51X100423f97641.jpg Can be also purchased here=> Appliance Part Southeast
The defrost thermostat is designed to turn the power off to the defrost heater once the coils are clear of frost. It is a temperature actuated switch and once the coils are clear, the thermostat will open and the heater will be turned off. If the thermostat does not reset once it gets below freezing, it is most likely defective. Part number=> WR50X10054

Both top sections fridge/freezer of my side by side are not cold

Sounds like a defrost problem. Remove food from freezer section, take the back wall out after removing shelves, and use a hair blower to melt off the ice and frost. Most likely you need to replace the defrost heater.

Water freezing up in holding tank

Get some foam hollowed tubeing for insullateing plubing and cut a slit down it and shorten it to the tubes leading away from the tank rap it around the plastice tubes so air isn't directly on it. This some times does the trick really well. If from there it keeps on you may be a temp. control problem that is freezing it up. Also tank temps. Most Samsung fridges should be 37degrees in the fridge section and 0degrees in freezer section. Hit me up if you have any other ploblems.
