Where can I get a repair manual for a Hotpoint Fridge

Hi,

First of all, the model number you gave is not complete. But check you defrost system in the freezer, when the refer section stops cooling, your evaporator in the freezer is possibly full of ice and the fan won't move air through ice. When the refer sections fails to cool, check for a fan in the freezer. If it works, you have a defrost problem and is occurs every 3 - 5 days. The unit should defrost once or twice a day. Good Luck

Kenmore classic bottom freezer refrigeration warm but freezer is cold

I would guess you have just caused a build up of ice to block the air way, which normally takes cold air into the fridge. manually defrost (unplug and wait until the ice goes away) then restart and it should be fine

This answer will be somewhat long, but in order to understand the "fix" for your problem you need to understand how a refrigerator-freezer works.

Most units have ONE COMPRESSOR which usually cools the FREEZER. Then, to cool the fridge area, there is a DUCT or ducts between the freezer and the fridge area to move some small amount of very cold freezer air into the fridge section. In the old days this occurred by convection, but most newer units have a small fan in the duct to more dependably move the air.

The run time of the compressor, and thus the temperature of the freezer is usually controlled by a THERMOSTAT [usually with numbers on the dial]. A second control [usually with the letters A, B, C, and sometimes even D] operates either a DAMPER in the duct, or controls the duration of fan operation in order to control the temperature in the fridge section.

Under certain conditions of higher humidity, FROST [fine ice crystals] can build up in the duct, and on the fan if there is one, reducing or totally blocking the cold air flow from the freezer to the fridge section.

From your description of the freezer working well, but the fridge section being "warm" suggests that blockage of the duct is what has happened. However, there are a couple of other possibilities:

1. You inadvertantly moved the fridge control to a warmer setting,
2. You inadvertantly placed something in the freezer and/or fridge which BLOCKED the entrance or exit of the duct,

IF one of the above are the cause, a "manual" defrost of a few hours with the freezer and fridge doors open to allow warmer air in should melt out any frost/ice from the duct and allow the system to work properly. Depending on the severity of the frost/ice buildup, it could take a couple of days to fully melt all the frost/ice.

During the manual defrost ALL frozen and perishable foods should be temporary stored in an ice chest or cooler of some kind.

One more thing, in addition to heavy humidity, frost/ice buildup can also be caused by a defective automatic DEFROST TIMER. IF the system does not do its regular defrost cycle [usually an hour or two once in each 24 hours], then frost/ice buildup can occur even with "normal" humidities.

So, once you have the system back in operation, watch for the normal cycling of the defrost program, and if the problem continues, contact a qualified refrigeration repair technician to repair or replace the defrost TIMER.

Freezer works refrigerator is warm

If the freezer is getting cold and working properly, but fridge section is not getting cold, then it can be defrost issue.------------------ The procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located.--------- Try manual defrost reset procedure: ---- First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. It will take near to 4 hours to get run in its proper cooling cycle. Then check, if the problem returns again. If the same problem occurs then it's defrost problem. The defrost board and the defrost thermostat/heater is not functioning properly and it has to be checked and replaced. The defrost assembly consists of three main parts. The defrost thermostat, the defrost heater and defrost board. Any of the one is not functioning. When thermostat sense the maximum cooling, it triggers the defrost heater to start heating and this defrosts the ice collected on the coils and the system works. Both thermostat and heater are controlled by defrost board. First the thermostat and defrost heater to be checked, if both check ok by meter and visually, then its defrost board causing the problem. You can get required parts from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site. This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Over the past couple of weeks, my Side-By-Side Refrigerator freezer has not been running properly. It thaws out for a day or two, then it starts freezing again for a couple more days.

The defrost is not working. This happens due to the evaporator coil in the inner section of freezer is got blocked by ice .--------

Try manual defrost reset procedure: ----

First unplug the unit from main power outlet.

--------------------

Check the damper if there is too much water collected in the damper then press the damper and remove the water collected in it. The procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the refrigerator section and the refrigerator section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located. Now this problem which you mentioned. In this problem the freezer thaws, this happens if the thermostat is not functioning or the heater is not heating. Then the ice starts getting collected on the evaporator coil. The evaporator coil is at the internal section of freezer. If too much ice gets collected then this ice blocks the fan in the freezer section from functioning and this blocks the damper section with ice getting collected there. This all procedure is controlled by the main defrost board of the unit. Now if the damper is not got blocked with too much water or if the ice is not got collected on the damper area then check the evaporator coils. If there is too much ice got collected on the coils, then takes a hair dryer and melt the collected ice. Then see if the problem returns again. But if there is little bit ice collected on the coils and fan is running properly then it's not a problem. In that case main board is faulty and it has to be replaced. The main defrost board is working but its not controlling the functions as required so the freezer thaws after couple of days.

---------

You can get required parts from sears part direct online site or from repairclinic.com site.

--------

This will help. Thanks. Helpmech.

-----------------

So first try reset procedure. If that is not helping then defrost assembly parts are to be checked and replaced. The defrost thermostat is located in the freezer section beside the evaporator coil. The defrost heater is located in the freezer section beside the evaporator coil. And the defrost control board is located in the fridge section.-------------

you can get the required parts from online sites like:---

www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site.---------This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

From time to time stops working and making a noise like boling water

A refrigerator must defrost 2 - 3 times a day. It does this via the automatic defrost cycle. When the cycle starts alll motors shut off and there is a heating element that is in the evaporator / freezer section of your unit. That heating element melts the ice until the 60 Deg F bi-metal thermostat cycles and terminated the automatic defrost cycle. During the defrost cycle is is normal to hear a hissing sound as the melting ice drips on the heating element assy. Addiionally you may hear coolant gurgles as the unit shuts off to start the defrost cycle and the coolant system equalizes the internal pressures between the pressure and return lines. Again another normal sound. If your unit did not stop to defrost 2 - 3 times a day in a matter of 3 to 4 days you would have a large block of ice in the back of your freezer section and the evaporator fan blades would be hitting that ice block. The freezer would say cool yet probably no longer make ice. Also the fresh food compartment would start warming up. Hopefully this resolves your concerns. If you need more assistance just respond to this post and I will help you.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

My GE Adora side by side refrig. has stopped making ice and I am having a hard time regulating the settings on it. The freezer is too cold and the refrig. section isn't cold enough. I also have noticed...

Defroster circuit/timer has failed.

The water line to the icemaker has probably frozen,so no ice. The cooling coils are in the freezer, and the cold air moves to the fridge via vents and circulation fan.

When it all ices up, no air gets to fridge, fridge gets warm.

Many models have a mechanical defroster timer located under the lower front kick panel. Manually rotate the timer until you hear the compressor stop.

Defroster heater then should come on and you hear scorch/hiss/gurgle of defrost sounds. If the timer is working, the fridge should come back on after about a half hour or so.

Sometimes timer fails, sometimes heater element fails. There is also a defrost thermostat that's part of the heater assembly.

Freezer/fridge won't get cold enough

Madezmom, you have a defrost issue. If your model starts with 106 you more than likley have a bad defrost bi-metal, I will attach a picture of bad one. This sits on the evaporator in the freezer section behind the panel. You will have to remove the shelves and remove the back panel. Defrost the evaporator completely. The part number for the bi-metal is 2196155. See if yours is bulged like the one in the attached photo. If so, that's your problem..Catriver..post back.
