Question about Sony Handycam DCR-DVD108 DVD Camcorder

2 Answers

Disc will not play... camcorder wants to format the disc and says it is empty.

I recorded 30 minutes of footage onto a memorex mini-dvd rw on my sony handycam dcr-dvd 108 and took the disc out to attempt to transfer the data to a computer. unfortunately, i did not finalize the disc or see an option to do so. now, when i place the disc in the camera or any computer, the disc is said to be empty and in need of formatting. looking at the bottom of the disc, i can see that data has been recorded. is there any way to save my footage?I'm having the same problem, I was recording and must have accidently opened where the disc is. When I went back in to record, I was forced to format. I don't have the "home" option, it just asks to format using the guide or not using the guide. Obivously I can't finalize in order to watch. Are my videos lost? :( I hope not, I recorded my neice's first birthday and my other neice's first dance recital. Please help!!

Hi. unfortunately the disk that was used to store these video files has been corrupted and all the files present on this media have been lost. due to the fragmented state of the data, the re formatting procedure cannot be preformed and the disk is ruined.

For future references, i recommend transferring with out removing the disk from the camcorder. you can preform a transfer without removing the disk, use the usb cord or any linking cord that is compatible to the cam you have. use the usb port to link the cam to a vcr or dvd burner or cpu. this will allow transfer in a safe manner without finalizing the disk.

YOu can command the transfer with a nero burn or Roxio media application.

Sony Camcorder tells me to use Sony DVD discs. I can't find any on the internet. Sony 30 'minutes 1,4GB/GO

Of course, Sony wants you to use only Sony blank media. :-)

See:

http://www.officedepot.ca/catalog/search.do?fkey=Vs5e55Pir7fdUMwpRkEqX2z&Ntt=mini+dvd-rw

for 1.4GB "mini DVD-RW" disks made by MEMOREX.

Look at any of the "big-box" stores (BestBuy, FutureShop, Staples, OfficeDepot, WalMart, et cetera) for "mini DVD-RW" media.

Unable to read dvd-rw from sony camcorder - wants to format

I had a similar issue. I could not read the camcorder dvd drive (sony hdr ux5) from my computer. I even tried several different computers, it reads the drive but cannot recognize the format. I made sure the disk was finalized, but did not help. Then I found the this article http://forum.videohelp.com/topic351360.html which suggested I down load CDRoller which I did (14 day trial version), finally I could read the drive on the camcorder dvd drive. Hope this helps you, if you have not fixed it already.

Problem formatting mini dvd+rw disc

The full user manual is available at:

If the procedure fails, the disk may be corrupt but you might try formatting the disk on your pc.

Hope this helps. Please rate reply if it does thanks.

Playing back footage on pc

mini DVs sometimes can't be access using usb interface, try to look if u have a firewire interface, be sure your laptop supports IEEE1394. power dvd is the best player for dvd files. -r means recordable, not rewritable (rw). if ur not familiar with video editing, you may not be able to burn it to disc, but you can play and watch everytime.

How can I view the footage recorded on the DVD-Camcorder?

-Press ‘Play’ on the camcorder and review the footage on the 2.5” LCD screen -Connect the DVD-Camcorder to your television using the supplied Audio/Video cables -Download the file to your PC using the supplied USB 2.0 interface cable(not available on DZMV730A) and view it using a Windows MPEG Player application that supports DVD recording format (.vro file extension). -Finalize a DVD-R or DVD-RW disc and play it directly through a home DVD player.
