Check your fuel lines. It is probably getting air into the system. Also check inside the gas tank to make sure the fuel pick up line is still attached.

If you need more assistance please provide an exact model number and I can better help you.

Since you did not provide a model number I had to guess electric or gas.... I replied with a gas response. The no model number problem on the site happens every day on the site. Tech do not work off of a nomenclature and meiter are the tech manuals. Theya re all by model number.
As for a new hedge trimmer right out of the box that has problems suspect the brushes. If the armature was not polished properly before assembly and has a sharp edge the commutator will grind the brushes down like sand paper in a really quick manner. Your 20 minutes or run time is about right. A broken brush spring can also cause it to not work well or just plain fail.
My apology to you for using my 45 years of experience incorrectly and not guessing your model correctly. I note above that this is a re-conditioned unit at least under this heading:
Problem with the Remington "Factory Reconditioned" 17-Inch 3.0 Amp AXCESS Electric Hedge Trimm
After looking at the heading and seeing 3.0 Amp... yes... I was dead wrong but I still need a model number.
My best guess at a model number is: RM3017HP and 41AF305G983 http://manuals.mtdproducts.com/mtd/Safet...

^-These are the only parts out there for this model.

Even using the MTD site that is main support site for Remington parts only shows this:
    http://www.mtdparts.com/webapp/wcs/store...
You best bet at finding brushes for this 3.2 motor is via a service center. I know of no other source for this particular model. I spent 20 minutes looking for a model number and over an hour for free trying to find a parts source.
The repair you going to need will be in area of the brushes (brush wires, brush, spring, brush clip), and a polishing of the armature commutator with 220 grit or higher sand paper.

This is the person that tried to help you: http://blog.fixya.com/index.php/2010/05/...

Thanks for giving me the nudge to pay attention.

Try leaving the chokey partially engaged. Operate it this way for a few minutes until the engine is thoroughly heated then move to the run position. If this does not work return it.

To the best of my knowledge, all parts have to be obtained online. Remington (DESA) went out of business in 2008/2009. They are now owned by MTD. It is still unknown if MTD will continue to offer parts for the older units.
Good luck!

Same problem. New last fall, quit after 30 min.

The brushes for the trimmer is no longer available, so unless you can find someone who has old stock of the part, your going to have to replace this one.

did you try the air filter. could be not getting air. And are you sure it is firing. if so try a spray of ether. You can but at auto parts store. but be careful with it. don't use much. If it is firing it will go.
