Sometimes even a new bulb will not work. If you have a Digital Multi Meter you can check that you have power going to the rear. I know that sometimes when a vehicle loses a bulb in one end that it can make the other end stop working. With that said, I suggest that you double check to see that the front works. I used to own a 98 Cavalier RS with the 2.2 liter motor and I know that there are fuses under the hood and behind a little door on the drivers side in the car. Might check fuses under the hood also.

There shouold be a fuse in the fuse panel for this, or you may possibly have a faulty door switch that activates the dome light. Hope this helps

check each door switch mabe they are not earthing properly
sometimes a good twist& wriggle fixes them!
Cheers & good luck Rob.

If the fuse blows when you start the car their is a bare wire somewhere in the wiring system that is grounding out when power goes through the system. Thier is a possibility of it being something else that is on the same fuse. You will have to trace the wires to find out what and where it is exposed. Your switches should be tested also. The switch that turns the light on manually and the one located in the door jam itself that turns the light on when opening the door. You should bring your car to a mechanic who is qualified in electrical dianosis. I hope this helped you out. good luck..... It would be appreciatted if you could rate my answer. tThanks....MIKE-

If you didn't use an OHM meter or a test light to check the fuse, it still could be a bad fuse. Alot of times the fuse looks good to the eye but is in fact bad. Plus, in some autos, there are more than one fuse. Check to make sure there isn't an additional fuse somewhere. If all the fuses are good, check your switches for power, If your not getting power to the switches, go back and make sure there is power to the fuse. If no power there, then you have to trace the wires for where there is a break in the wires.

check with the dealer to make sure it's the right bulb. You say it won't come on, is it blowing bulbs or the new ones are still good when you take them out. If it blew the fuse other things wouldn't work too, like the radio and map lights and trunk light. If the light doesn't work and is not blowing fused it's narrowed down to the light assembly itself. It has a 3 position switch, on, off, and on with the door open. Try contact cleaner on the switch. If that doesn't work take the whole dome light assembly out and inspect it and use meters to see if the switch is functioning. If it's not you can't probably by one online or out of a junked one. or pay dealer money.
