If the power indicator flashes three times and then goes out. You will need the 270125 flyback repair kit which has the replacement Flyback transformer and the associated capacitors, plus the CD with detailed instructions. You can get the kit at www.tvrepairworld.com under the RCA repair kits catagory
If you know how to solder/desolder, no it isnt. Slinteriors on this website knows how. His address is email@example.com. he has parts and instructions on how to do it. I just replaced the flyback and cp150. Got the parts from him, and also got instructions on how to get out the circuitboard. Didnt trust myself to do it, so I took the board into a local computer repair guy who does soldering. He got the new ones on and tv is working fine now.
The HOT Hortz output transistor has gone home, 99% of the time from a faulty IVHT (Flyback Transformer), very common on the ctc187cl* chassis. The factory Flyback is no longer available, I have had problems finding an aftermarket one to replace it with.
The HOT is a BUH517, but you can also use a 2SD5129. It is the transistor mounted on the siler heat sink with a metal clip rather than a screw, just in front of the flyback.....
If you replace just the HOT, most of the time you will get a rapid arc (27,000volts - BE CAREFUL!!!) from the lower (yoke) post on the flyback. If the flyback is shorted, It may also just burn out the HOT and go right back to "squealing"....
Yes you can get the replacement flyback which is flyback 259296 at the following link and they provide free tech support to do the repair . Its a very easy repair takes about 20 minutes and requires the very basic soldering skills. heres the link. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
When you change the flyback and the HOT you are supose to replace a small capacitor that came with the flyback and also the small coil l401 that connects the hot base to the horiz. driver transformer secondary is supose to be taken out, the leads scrapped off of insulation and resoldered into place.
