Engine runs tines dont

The following was extracted from the Mantis owners manual..

At some point, you may find that the tines won't turn when you press the throttle. This may mean the engine isn't sitting all the way down on the worm gear housing. Perhaps you've been using your Tiller
for several years. Or perhaps you've removed the engine for use with the Mantis hedge trimmer attachment, then replaced it. In either case, the flange bolt may have come loose and lifted the engine up.
If this happened you'll notice a gap between the bottom of the engine clutch case and the top of the worm gear housing.

To fix this, loosen the flange bolt. Take the engine off the worm gear housing. Notice the hex head on top of the drive shaft . Inside the clutch case, you'll find the clutch drum. Make sure the hex head
lines up with the clutch drum inside the clutch case. Then put the engine back on the worm gear housing. Make sure the plastic carrying handle is not under the fuel tank. If you've followed these steps properly, there will be no gap between the clutch case and the worm gear housing. Make sure you tighten the flange bolt.

Engine cuts out when tiller arm lifted. Starts and ticks over fine. The tiller arm seems loose could this be the problem.

Sounds like the tiller arm has a Kill switch in the end to shut the motor off. If it does there are two black and yellow wires in there and they are shorting to ground or to each other when the arm is lifted. This would shut the motor off when the are is lifted. The black and yellow wire is the kill wire on most outboards. If it grounds out and the engine will not run.

My mantis tiller with a honda gx22 engine starts then shuts off after approx. 30 sec.

If your unit has a primer bulb, start your engine . When it starts to die push your primer, if the engine comes back to life you have a carb issue.

New mantis worked perfectly last season. Stored it for the winter. Tried to start it this spring. Pull cord is frozen up. Can't pull it out.

First, call Mantis and get their advice. It may be covered under warranty (I believe it comes with a 2 year warranty). If not under warranty remove the spark plug and try to pull the starter rope. If you can pull it out squirt a little 2-cycle oil in to the spark plug hole and pull it out several times before reinstalling the plug. Then try to start it again. If you can't pull it out after removing the plug try removing the engine cowl that contains the starter rope and see if you can pull it out then. If you can't then there is something wrong with the starter rope mechanism. Try some oil or Liquid Wrench on the spring to see if you can free it up. If you can then the piston may be seized. Again, squirt a little oil ni the spark plug hole. Take a ratchet wrench and socket to put on the crankshaft nut. Try to turn it. Do not apply to much force. I would send it back to Mantis for repair or replacement unless you are mechanically proficient enought to take the engine apart. If you have been using the correct fuel/oil mixture this should not happen.

The wire that goes from the on/off switch on the tiller handle broke off at the tiller side. Where does it re-attach to? I have to push the choke lever to the on position when its running to get it to stop...

The wire that runs the length of the handle and terminates at the engine is attached to a spade or bullet connector that is attached at the magnetto (spark plug wire comes from the magnetto). if it jus broke off you should be able to see where it attaches on the connector.

Mantis tiller sv-4 echo engine: no spark from coil

There are only 4 parts to the 2-stroke Mantis ignition system: the spark plug, the "kill button", the flywheel with embedded magnets, and the coil with integral plug wire. There are no "points" to clean or refurbish. If you've tried a new spark plug, unplugged the wire leading up the handlebars, and the magnets on the side of the flywheel are strong enough to attract a screw driver blade, then it must be a bad coil. That's all it could be. End of story.

Cruising the internet I see where these Echo coils go bad all the time. You can order the coil, but if the machine hasn't run in several years the carb will also need cleaning. So one thing leads to another. The gear box grease also needs replacing each year. What I'm trying to tell you is these are disposable tillers and due to length of time, incomplete care/ storage, ....whatever, this one's time is up.

Sorry.
