The usb connector/flash I(that going into the usb port of my laptop) for my wireless keyboard is broken. Are there universal replacements? Can I order a replacement from the company or do I need to get a brand new keyboard?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

If it is a bluetooth keyboard then you can probably get a new USB Bluetooth adapter.  If it is a non-Bluetooth USB wireless adapter it might be more of a problem and you might need a new keyboard.

What make/model of keybaord is it?

The mouse cursor on my laptop wandering without control?

This is what they call device interference, You might have to many wireless devices connected to a single USB port on your PC. Sometimes its a struggle between keyboard and mouse both wireless. Solution would be to limit the wireless devices to certain USB ports. For ex: plug the wireless keyboard to opposite USB port from the wireless mouse, vise versa. If you are using a multi-port USB connector, unplug the mouse from the multi-port and plug it to a single USB port on the PC.
tip

USB devices not recognised or not working properly?

Try these steps to reinitialize your usb ports on your pc

1. Unplug ALL USB devices connected to the computer. If you are using a USB mouse and keyboard, temporarily use the older type PS/2 devices if you have them, if you don't then just leave them connected.

2. Hold down the windows key and press r

3. Type devmgmt.msc into the run menu and press ok

4. Click on the + sign next to the Universal Serial Bus Controllers

5. You might need another mouse to do this if you have a usb mouse.. I recommend you get a ps2 connector mouse which goes into the green round connector in the back of your pc.

6. Right click and uninstall first the usb root hubs. all of them then uninstall the rest of the devices you see under Universal serial bus controllers

7. Ones you have uninstalled everything you should see the Universal serial bus controllers there at all.

8. Now go ahead and restart your pc.

9. Ones you have restarted the pc your usb ports will reinstall in a moment stand by while it installs all of them. If you get warning messages click ok or continue installation.

10. Now go ahead and plug the usb devices back in. Install software if required, all usb devices if not faulty or broken should work now. Also note the error code if you get one?

This solution doesn't fix all usb problems so if you have a yellow ! mark there and device status reports a error code. Then it might not be a problem with your usb ports.

How to connect my key bord to pc

Any "modern" keyboard either has:
* a "round" connector (first used by the IBM 'PS/2' line of computers, 30-some years ago)
* a "flat" USB connector
* no connector at all, because it is a "wireless" keyboard, communicating wirelessly to a "receiver" that has either the 'PS/2' connector or the USB connector.

So, "how to connect" depends on which connector your keyboard has, and what sockets your motherboard has.

Hi . .. I want to use this KVM switch to connect

The GCS632U has keyboard and mouse emulation that may not work with all wireless combos. If your wireless combo is going to work the single USB connection would need to go into the keyboard port as that is the only port that will recognize the hot key switching commands. If the wireless combo still has problems then try using a USB wired keyboard to ensure the GCS632U is working correctly.

Compaq Armada E500 PC Notebook usb port problem

If the usb connector / port is only damaged it should be a fairly easy task.

Your going to need a few screwdrivers to get the laptop open
and a soldering iron, to remove the port or ports connector(s)
from the motherboard then replace it with a new connector.
if the motherboard is damaged you would most likely have to replace the whole motherboard and that would be way too much money for a few usb ports.

the usb connector only has 4 pins

Broken Prong inside connector for mouse

If the ps2 port on the main board is broken you will need to replace the board. If this is the case and your computer has usb ports on it just go out and buy a usb mouse.

If the part that is broken is from the mouse by using tweezers try to gently remove the broken part from the board. if unsuccessful use the usb port with a usb mouse.
