Hi again and A BIG THANKS for your reply! You folks are GREAT!!! I also have another question if you don't mind. I also have a Sony camcorder CCD TRV 58. It is in BRAND NEW condition and only 2 tapes were recorded in it before putting it in the closet for several years. I took the camcorder out the other day and everything works fine EXCEPT it wont "show" the tape while it's being played. When I record, It acts like it's recording but when I play back what I just recorded, nothing... When I pause it on playback you can see super heavy snow with the bars from the head but no picture. It's "like" the playback head is barley touching OR the "like" the tape is being played back on the OPPOSITE or REVERSE side of the tape. Pinch roller??? Thanks again!!!
My advice is that you should by a cleaning cassette. Put this in the camera and run it for 10 to 20 seconds only. running the cleaning cassette for a long time may damage the head. good luck! Luwangula

it sounds like you need to use the rewind option first to rewind the tape. If the tape isn't rewound, then you're unable to play it. And this might cause the eject issue that you're experiencing as well.
Hi Hansel, I'm just guessing, but think you may be a youngster? If your folks have banned you from reading Big Nate, ask them to explain why. If they tell you because they say so, ask them for a proper explanation, so you can learn the reason for the ban. If your folks will not allow you to read but wont give an explanation, you need to prove to them they can trust you. If you need to contact me again, just answer this and I'll know. Regards John
Hi, If video head got clogged then camcorder wont read tape in playback so result comes as blue screen. Please use video head cleaning tape and clean video head of camcorder. This will solve your problem. Video-8 head cleaning tape is available with amazon.com Thanks.
try running a head cleaning tape for about 5 to 10 seconds and then try to play your tape again. If it improves, but is not yet right, repeat process. We use a Sony 8mm Head Cleaner in our repair shop (for minor cleaning issues) and it works great....lasts a really long time too.
The problem, according to messages on your site, is that the belts are old and have stretched. There is a great step by step tutorial on www.Instructables.com with pictures and all. Parts are not too hard to find on search engine. Looks like less than $25 to fix.
To the best of my knowledge 8mm VTR's have not been available for some time now. On the other hand there are plenty of Hi8 cameras and players available after market. eBay is a great source. Keep in mind that Hi8 cameras and decks will also play standard 8mm video tapes. There are also many video tape transfer services that will transfer your 8mm tapes to DVD or other formats of your choice. Just Google "videotape transfer service"
