I have one of these as well. All I did was go to the drive it shows in My Computer and right click on the drive and drill down to format. That will do it.

I hope that I have provided the correct information that will assist you in the resolution of this issue. If you have any questions, please post back with a comment to this thread.

I did not want to give you inappropriate information, so I will try to justify my help and see if I can help you resolve this issue. I did not know that you already tried that. I have one question for you. Do you want to keep the U3 program on the flash drive or do you want to get rid of it?

Here is something that I have done before.

    1. Open MyComputer and find out which drive the Cruzer is mounted as. Mine was E:

    2. Go to start then go to Run. Then type in CMD.

    3. [my Cruzer mounted as E:] at the command prompt, I typed "E:"

    4. Once in E:, I typed in "format e:" (enter)

    5. It'll fight with you a bit...and it will probably tell you that E: is busy, but it can override the 'busyness' to format.

    6. When the format command asks you to override, you say Y[es] and it invalidates all active handles to E: then starts to format the drive.

    7. It will take quite a while if you have an 8GB like I patient.

I hope this helps and the information is no longer inappropriate for this situation.

I have looked at the SanDisk web site and they have a format utility and a utility to install the U3 Launch pad if it is removed. So you should be safe.

    Here is the Sandisk link

The format utility is under OEM -Driver Downloads

This should take care of the format.

The /FS is a switch to force the format.

    With the following options.

    format e:/fs:ntfs, or format e:/fat32

My ScanDisk U3 is formated using fat32.

Help How can I unblock my sandisk cruzer

Dear Customer, Plz Flow this instruction i think solve you problem.
Reformat the drive:-
  • Right-click the SanDisk flash drive within "Computer" and select "Format..." Enter a name for the drive, select your desired format (FAT32 is typical for flash drives). Click "Start" to format the drive. This, unfortunately, will erase everything on the drive. Any data contained will be lost along with the password protection. Once reformatted, the drive will be fully accessible.

How to reformat a flash drive

Hi jabbbbbb6,
The Cruzer Micro is a flash storage device that connects to your computer's USB port. It comes in various sizes and fits on a keychain. If you want to erase the drive, you can perform a reformat from within Windows' Disk Management utility. After you reformat the drive, you do not need to reinstall any drivers because Windows automatically detects the device.

To Reformat, please follow the instructions:
1. Insert the Cruzer Micro to an available USB port on your computer. Right-click "Computer" and select "Manage." Click "Disk Management" under "Storage" on the left pane of the window.
2. Right-click your USB drive on the list of drives and select "Format." Select a name and file system type for your drive.
3. Click "OK" to reformat the drive. Click "Start" and "Computer" to access your drive.

Rate this accordingly.

Hope it helps.
Thank you for using Fixya.

SanDisk Cruzer Micro 4GB USB plugged it, light on, but shows an empty file in windows with capacity of 0bytes Also shows a CD drive (the one that U3 runs) which says nothing is in disk drive.

It is likely an issue with the filesystem. The FAT filesystem gets easily corrupted. If that's the case, reformatting it with FAT32 should help. But remember - reformatting erases all the data, so don't do it if you have anything important on the drive!

I have a cruzer micro 16Gb flash drive with 14.9Gb

Did you reformat as NTFS instead of the default FAT32? FAT32 can only transfer files up to 4.0Gb in size. If you reformat as NTFS, you can move larger files.

1gb cruzer micro

This is caused by 1 of 2 problems:
  1. Your flash drive is corrupted in some way, forcing the computer to reformat it before you can use it.
  2. The flash drive was formatted for a specific device (like a piano) and was made only for that device.
  3. Your PC incorrectly recognized it
  4. You do not have the correct drivers installed.
If you have problem #4, you can go onto google and search "1 gb cruzer micro drivers".
If you have problem #3, try plugging your flash drive into a different USB port.
If you have problem #2 or #1 (Which it most likely is), then you should try or buy a software application such as PC Inspector, to recover those files. Then you may reformat the flash drive.

However, I found that sometimes, just restarting the computer, and inserting and re-inserting the flash drive sometimes does work. But that's not guaranteed.
