Question about Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Calculator

So I am trying to graph a regular linear problem into my calculator using the "y=" button, but when I press the "graph" button when the formula "abs(X-3)" (or any formula, for that matter) is typed in correctly, I get this weird error: Invalid dimension. I know that happens when something isn't typed in correctly, but no matter what number/formula I try to graph, it does the same thing!

Please note that directly before this, I had deleted old info on my date tables (press STAT, then EDIT)... don't know if this is at all helpful.

If I need to erase any of the memory of anything, which part do I erase? I already did the "clear entries" option, but that had no effect.

Thank you so much for your help,

Taylor

Re: An "Invalid Dimension Error" on my TI-83 (not plus)--...

I'm having the same problem and I tried turning off one of these stat plots but turns out I don't know how to do it, or how to tell if I did or not. Help please?

Thanks

On of the stat plots is turned on and there is no longer any data to plot. Turn off stat plot and your graphs will work.

You're probably trying to graph a function that does not involve stat plot features. You can correct this by turning off the stat plot features. Press "2ND" "STAT PLOT" and then select 4:PlotsOff.

If this doesn't do it, could you post the exact function you're trying to graph?

You can't simply enter 7x+9=30 into the calculator, there is a way to calculate what the x is but its been a few years since I've done these..

You must deactivate the statistical plots. If you do statistical graphs, the graphing is reconfigured in a way that happens to be incompatible with regular fuction graphs.

- To deactivate the statistical plots.
- Press [2nd][Y=] to access the (STAT PLOT) menu.
- Press [4:PlotsOff][ENTER].
- Calculator displays Done.
- You are ready to draw the function graphs.
