Question about Cannon i70 Printer

1 Answer

Canon i70 print head does not move to the middle

The printhead is stuck on the right and won't move to the middle, and thus won't print.  Should I try and force it back?  The grean and orange lights are blinking alternately.

Thanks and regards,

My printer has the same problems as discribed. How to unlock???

  • Anonymous Dec 03, 2008

I am having the same problem right now. Flashes amber seven times...problem with the printer head. But it is stuck to the right. I did the hold the resume button and then hit the on button....hit the resume button twice and let go. Then I get a steady amber light and it won't go off without disconnecting the power. So what's up with that.

I have exactly the same problem. It happened between printings. I tried forcing the print head out, but couldn't. I also tried to lift the top silver flap, but am afraid to break it.

I have the same exact problem and I e-mailed tech support. They mailed me back this response:

Thank you for writing to Canon technical support. We value you as a
Canon customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you. We
sincerely regret your i70 printer is not respond properly, and the light
continues to flash orange and green.

When the Power light alternates between orange and green, the printer
was not able to initialize successfully because of a hardware error.

For troubleshooting purposes, please check and confirm the following:

    1. Power the printer on.

    2. Open the cover. (The print head will move to the center from
    the right.)

    3. Press and hold the Resume/Cancel button for more than three seconds.
print head will move to the right a little.)

    4. Hold and lift the print head lock lever button. It is a silver piece
that lifts up to release the print head.

    5. Lower the print head lock lever to lock the print head in place.

    6. Close the print head cover.

    7. Isolate the printer by powering off and disconnecting it from the

    8. Check carefully for any objects or other material that may be inside
    the printer or sheet feeder.

    9. After waiting about thirty seconds, plug the printer in, power on
and see whether the printer initializes properly with a steady green
    POWER light.

If the issue continues, service regrettably appears necessary.

The only problem is that when the power is turned off then on the print head does not center itself and I still get no response at all.

The print head is not designed to be moved manually and damage may occur if you try to do so forcefully.
To center the print head to replace ink tanks and to replace/remove print head you should do the following:
1. Make sure power is turned on and open the Paper Output Tray gently. 2. Lift the scanning unit (cover) until it stops. Lift with document cover closed. The print head holder should move to the replacement position (center).
Do not force print head holder to move nor touch it while it's moving. These parts are very delicate and generally are made mostly of plastic.
IMPORTANT If the Scanning Unit (Cover) is left open for more than 10 minutes, the Print Head Holder moves to the right. In this case, close and reopen the Scanning Unit (Cover).

Error message 6a80 mx700 printer canon what is this?

Ok, the error code you are getting refers to a paper jam, which the paper is usually torn from the big piece and stuck, you need to have a good lok to find it.
Most probably the paper was ripped inside, and one piece is stuck somewhere on a sensor. Usualy is the purge unit that clean up the print head, and it's located inside on the right side (printhead parking place).

Take a torch, lift up the scanner unit, with the unit ON, wait for the print head to come in the middle, move it to left to make more room, and check the right side, inside the unit.

Kind regards

When the carriage is stuck on the right there's not much you can do, When the printhead goes bad it keeps your printer from powering up. You need to either remove the printhead, or unplug the light color ribbon cables from the circuit board on the right side of the machine inorder to power up, and then change the printhead. Canon i70 bubble jet printer : print head is stuck all the way to the right, will not center, green/amber light alternating continually. Help ?!

You Canon printer seems to have RETIRED when it does that. It is a common canon prblem and that is why the smaller canon printers are referred to as DISPOSABLE printers. The motherboard of the printer has got a problem on it and would cost more that the price of a new printer to have fixed.

WRONG CARTRIDGE and Printhead does not move MP780

your printer ink cartridge can not access (move to middle) when you open up the cover, you may try
1) try to open right side cover you move the cartridge by hand (power off) to middle position, then take out the cartridge and reinstall it then power on, the cartridge moving right, you may open up the cover again if the cartridge go back the middle position which means your printer works normal. still stop moving go next
2) check the cartridge initcial sensor at righe side, the cartridge moving to the end of right should be touch this sensor, find out it and check there is good touch (click) by the cartridge body. adjust the sensor position maybe needed.
3) cartridge is stucked sometime also check the cartridge moving rail hard moving, need to drop oil to lubricate.

Print Head

After opening the purple cover, the printer head will move to the center. There should be a gray tab on the left side of the forward facing opening (about the middle of lower cartridge). Gently push printer head to the right (1/4 to 1/2 inch) and a gray slanted tab will appear from behind housing. lift this tab and a metal lock will pop up. Tilt lock back and the printer head should be lying loose in its cradle.
