You can either by a ps2 to usb adaptor which can work sometimes and sometimes not or you can just straight up by a USB keyboard. They are like $10.00.

HOW TO CONNECT A4TECH KEYBOARD TO LAPTOP OR CAN THIS KEYBOARD WORKS FOR LAPTOP

If your keyboard has a PS/2 port and your laptop do not, then it is not compatible. Most keyboards and laptops nowadays both support USB. If both of them do use USB then you should be fine.

Number, one, three, five seven and zero not working and back space aswell

Is your keyboard connected via USB (a flat rectangular connector), PS/2 (A round connector, often it is purple), or AT connector (a round connector that is roughly twice the size as the PS/2 port for your mouse)? More than likely, it's connected via USB. Especially if it was bought within the last five or six years. If it is a USB keyboard, try plugging it into a different USB port and see if that helps. If that doesn't help then most likely the cord on your keyboard is damaged (kind of like when you have a pair of headphones that will only sound on one ear unless you jiggle the wire). If it's not the USB port (or you have a PS/2 keyboard) I would recommend you buy a new one. You can get one for as cheap as $10.

Try connecting a PS/2 keyboard (PS/2 means the round connector) and a USB mouse (flat connector). What Operating System are you using? Windows '98? Windows XP? Some other OS?

I dont know how to connect the keyboard to my computer does it have any soft ware or extra wire to connect?

The keyboard does not have any software (It is plug and play). It has only a single wire. There are two different type of connectors at the end of these wires.
Some keyboards have PS/2 connectors and the connectors are round shaped and other keyboards have USB connectors which are flat in shape.
Take a good look at all the wholes on your computer and at the same time look at you connector (It will be either PS/2 or USB) and slowly and carefully insert the connectors.

note:There are two types of PS/2 connectors. One is for mouse(usually green colored) and the other for Keyboard (usually violet colored). Insert you keyboard accordingly.

Can i use a compaq keyboard on another brand of computer

Keyboard brand is not important. The keyboard connector is your only concern. The keyboard has either the round PS/2 connector or the flat USB connector. Therefore, the computer must have a matching port for the keyboard to work.

IMPORTANT: A PS/2 keyboard must be connected BEFORE the computer is turned on. A USB KB can be connected at any time but it may take a few seconds for the computer detects it.

Please vote for my solution if it helps.

How to connect my key bord to pc

Any "modern" keyboard either has:
* a "round" connector (first used by the IBM 'PS/2' line of computers, 30-some years ago)
* a "flat" USB connector
* no connector at all, because it is a "wireless" keyboard, communicating wirelessly to a "receiver" that has either the 'PS/2' connector or the USB connector.

So, "how to connect" depends on which connector your keyboard has, and what sockets your motherboard has.

I obtained a number of old DEC (DIGITAL) keyboards, from the era before PS-2 connections :) These keyboards have a connector that looks like a phone-connector for a PC. Is there some cenversion plug...

There indeed used to be it was called a AT keyboard to PS/2 adapter.. But they didn't work well as in those days not all KB's were the same in all ways.. but i am sure eBay will have them.

My dell sk8110 keyboard has a round purple connector plug that fit my old computer. My new computer has only USB ports. How can I connect my keyboard to the new computer?

The round purple connector is refered to as "PS/2" type connector. You can find an adapter that converts PS/2 to USB connector. The above link was just to show what I was refering to. Hope this helps.

Belkin KVM STandard 9 pin mouse/keyboard to USB COnversion

You need to have the keyboard connecter (purple) connected to your computer in order for the KVM switch to recognize it. The computer is providing some power through the keyboard connector and this is what the KVM switch is feeding on.

If you have a USB keyboard, you may want to change your KVM for a USB compatible one. If you just want to use the KVM to switch your monitor, you may plug the keyboard (purple) connector of the KVM to your computer's keyboard PS/2 port and also connect you USB keyboard directly to your computer. It should work.
