Most of the time this is caused by the television being in "Closed Caption Text" mode.
You can verify this by changing chanels and the box should go away for a bit. Sometime the buttons get pressed and the box jsut shows up.

All you have to do is turn off Closed Captioning in the menu or by using the CC button on the remote.

I hope that I have provided the correct information that will assist you in the resolution of this issue. If you have any questions, please post back with a comment to this thread.

Black spots tv screen goes away sometimes

Your tv has multiple backlights in it... sounds like one of your inverters are going. Don't be surprised when the tv stops displaying anything at all.

TV is about 1 year old. Started yesterday having a black rectangle in the middle of the screen. Can press any button and it goes away but come's back in just a few seconds. Tv is a Element ELCHS321

Hi,
most times a black rectangle pops up when closed captioning is on. sometimes there will be gibberish in it sometimes not. See if you have button on remote labeled "CC" . Also if you have a cable or sat box make sure closed captioning is switched off there too.

My 32 lcd tv a black rectangle apears on aprox,

If it is a large black rectangle that blots out the middle of the screen then you need to check your CC (closed caption) setting. Make sure the closed caption is turned off. I'm not up to date on the newer sets, but a lot of the older ones had more than one CC setting. One setting ran the captioning across the bottom, another put it in a big black box in the center of the screen. Most places didn't support the full text so all that showed was a big black rectangle on the screen. Since I'm not sure exactly what your rectangle looks like, this is my best estimate of your problem. Hope this helps.

Black squares or rectangles over picture

It's the closed captioning. The reason it doesn't go away when you press the "caption" button is because there are four option for closed captioning: Text 1, Text 2, Text 3, and Text 4. The fifth option, which has no designation, is the "off" option. Using the remote, just click on the "caption button until the option has no designation.

Mine was a large black rectangle in the middle of the picture. It's not like Nina3's problem.
