Water dispenser not working but ice cube maker working fine on my GE Side by Side Refrigerator Model Number GSA 25 VGPQA WW bought 4/14/04. I can make the water dispenser work by removing the water filter and filling it with warm water and by rubbing the underside of the ice cube container with a wet, warm cloth for several minutes and by keeping the doors open until the temperature rises. This fix lasts for one to four days. Can you help?

I fixed mine by leaving the light on the dispenser on. It took about 6 hrs, but the little heat from the light bulb was enough to defrost the water line.

Mine did same thing. What is happening is the Water Line in the freezer door is freezing.

SOLUTION. Leave the freezer door open and turn off the freezer for a night. Be sure to dump out all of your ice cubes too.

In the morning it will work like new. To prevent it from happening again, open the FRIDGE door and use the electronic controls to raise the temperature of the freezer. You had it too cold before...thats why your water line froze in the first place.

This is a common problem for GE refrigerators. Fortunately there is a simple, inexpensive and permanent fix. GE released a water line heater that is easily installed. More details on the and solution here.

Borrow your girlfriend or wife's blowdryer warm the inside of the door where the water runs out of. I had to do it for 3 to 5 minutes on warm to high heat. Keep the settings for your freezer on no higher than 4. 3 works good too.

I run a dishcloth under the hot tap till it's very hot, then I squeeze most of the water out, open the freezer door, press this very hot cloth against the inside door (opposite and above where the dispenser is) for a couple of minutes, do this a couple more times, and after another couple of minutes the dispenser works again. Have done this several times and presto, no problem.

Someone had suggested using a 10 inch piece of weed eater wire in the water line with about an inch hanging out of the front of the fridge. And if it refreezes just pull it to break the ice plug in the line. This absolutely works but I could not get the line to defrost in the first place so to get the wire in the water dispenser. So...I propped a spot light on a bar stool and pointed it at the water dispenser tray (about two feet from the fridge) for about 5 minutes. The door gets very warm. Then I opened the freezer door and pointed it at the back of the water dispenser where the tube is ran inside the door for about 5 min. It melted the plug of ice and worked like a charm!

My GE side by side water dispenser tends to freeze up during the slightest change to cold weather. Initially we would have to open the freezer door for about an hour removing frozen food from the door and blocking the freezer compartment with a large automobile sun shade and eventually the line would defrost and water dispenser would resume working til it would freeze again. Instead of buying and installing the heater device sold by GE, I cut about a 12 inch piece of weed eater trimmer line, tied a knot in the end and inserted that into the dispenser tube. Then when the line freezes again you grab the knot for grip and pull the trimmer line out and water will flow; reinsert the trimmer line before the tube freezes again and repeat the process as required when tube freezes.

I had this problem for the last few years -yes turning off the freezer with the door open for a few hours worked but is a royal pain in the neck. Using a hairdryer for 15 minutes does too, when it keeps freezing up agin every day. I also had a repairman install the GE kit to keep it from freezing - it worked for awhile, but then stopped working, and the water line again froze up. Looking at solutions around the Internet, the one that made the most sense suggested that there was insufficient insulation in the freezer door directly behind the water dispenser; i also noticed freezing air blowing directly there when the freezer was running. So I simply stuffed a cloth towel on the inside of the door where the ice comes through, and hanging down in front of the flat part behind the dispenser - and it did not freeze for several days. i then got a flat piece of insulating styrofoam, about 10inx11in, attached it by velcro to that flat part on the inside of the door, and have not had a problem since.

Ice maker only dispenses crushed ice, won't dispense cubed ice anymore.

I have a GE TFX25ppbaaa refrigerator. The ice maker corkscrew motor would run and provide crushed ice only. The corkscrew motor would not run when the switch was moved to the cubed ice ( half moon) setting.

I replaced the large Light/ water/ crushed ice/cubed ice switch , ( product service number GEH WR55X129 ) ( part number GE 162D6372 PO17 )and it fixed the problem. Cost was about $43.00.

Take the icemaker out and let it sit in the sink for around 12 hours. Then put it back in. This has worked for me when I have the same problem. I think that the water line is freezing up. I have to do this every month or two.
