Re: My techko SH 3112Fa won't turn off

I had the same problem with my Shredded. In the centre of the paper feed slot is a little sensor that detects when you put paper in, it breaks some sort of light beam that is connected to the motor circuit.

Over time paper dust gathers on this sensor, covering it completely and fooling the machine to think that there is ALWAYS a piece of paper being fed into the shredder, the result being that the motor just runs continuously.

Clear the dust from this sensor and you'll fix this particular problem - a toothbrush worked great for me - don't use it to clean your teeth afterwards :-)

If the machine has auto-detection, then the sensors in the paper throat are probably dirty with paper dust. With the sensors blocked, the machine thinks there is paper in the throat so it will continue to run.

The paper feed unit must be cleaned of all paper pieces that have lodged inside. some pieces are making the paper detect switch send a false signal to motor.

How do I unjam it?

Sometimes the only effective way to unjam a shredder is to turn it upside down (with power disconnected) and pick out the jamming material bit by bit. It is a tedious, messy job.

Only goes in reverse

Lube might not be necessary. Unplug the shredder from the outlet. Lift it off the shredded paper bin and turn it over. It is very possible that you have a jam. If this is the case, remove as much paper as you can making sure that you don't use anything that could do damage to the cutter'shredder blades. Once you have removed as much paper as possible, place the shredder back on the bin making sure that it is aligned properly. One way of making sure is to check for any space between the shredder and bin. If you do have space make sure that you replaced the shredder correctly on the bin; you may have to turn it around 180 degrees. When you get the shredder properly aligned, use the switch (DO NOT USE PAPER AT THIS TIME) to switch the shredder from Forward (shredding) to Reverse. You may have to do this a couple of times so be patient. At this point the shredder should be working in both directions. If so, move the switch to Auto or the center position and try a SINGLE sheet of paper. If it shreds that piece of paper, then you have fixed it. Be sure not to insert more paper than the shredder is rated for. Also, unless it specifically states that it can handle staples, credit cards, etc. do NOT let any of these items run through your shredder.
If none of the above works, buy a new one - :)

Unit when plugged in does not stop running!

The paper sensing switch lever is stuck or the switch has jammed in the closed position. Check between the wheels about in the middle of the shredder to see if you see if the little plastic finger is stuck anywhere, There could also be a piece of paper jamming it in the on position. If the finger is visible and can be moved, the switch is faulty. REMEMBER TO UNPLUG IT BEFORE DOING ANY INVESTIGATION.

Motor runs but the shredder does not move. It appears jammed but we have taken out what paper we can.

If the motor runs but the cutting shafts do not turn then most likely a gear has been broken/stripped inside. You will have to open it up to see which gear and then contact the manufacturer for parts.

Shredder runs continuosly

unplug the shredder and get aflash light look into the cutting slot.
there is micro switch in the slot.
must likely the switch is stucked, and not flipping back out.
try to use something thin clean off some of the glue (yes glue!) on and around the switch.
make sure the switch is free to move.
