Question about Porter Cable 513 Lock Mortiser

Open Question

Will not fully retract

Router body stops short of full retraction by one inch plus. Gear box is not engaged.

The porter cable 513 has a gearbox that houses a graduated depth rod( visible from the outside and some sort of crawler gear that is not visible on the inside. As the handle is cranked and the carriage moves along the track, the internal gear is activated to move up the depth rod and move the router assembly into the cut progressively.
The gear assembly in mine is jacked up by a previous owner. I was not smart enough to check the feed function in buying the thing. Inside the cover plate, there is not much visible.

I went to and typed in your model number and on page 5 found the instruction manual that might help you with the problem. I have one at work that I just scrapped out that I will look at also to see if I can come with anything

SOURCE: piston does non fully retract all the time

I have the same trouble with mine guns from time to time. A really good tear down cleaning followed by a drop or two of quality machine oil each time you use it should solve your problem. If you only use it once a month or so try dry firing it after oiling a half a dozen shots or so before loading it

Cub Cadet LTX 1050 50 inch. How do I get the deck belt over the PTO?

A common problem:
Make sure that:
1) You have the right belt if it's a replacement.
2) The mower control is in the "DO NOT CUT" or "NOT ENGAGED" position.
3) The tension idler has fully retracted.

How to put oil and bleed it in a FM Quality

place the body of the pump horizontal on the bench. make sure that the ram is in the fully retracted position. Remove the air bleed screw at the end and use a small funnel to run oil into the body of the pump. When full pump the unit to extend the ram. When it is fully extended then release the hold valve and retract the ram. do this a few times until you see the ram extend smoothly with each pump. Check that the oil is just short of full and replace the vent plug

The starter wont stop running after car is started

Can be caused by a few different problems:

1) Ringgear/pinion gear worn, causing them to remain meshed
2) Starter axle shaft worn causing pinion to not retract
3) Electrical fault causing soledoid to remain engaged

First, disconnect main lead on rear of starter (large wire from battery to starter) and try the key, using the test lamp to confirm that the signal wire (small) is only live when the key is in the start position (when key springs back to on, it should go dead) If so, then problem 3 can be ruled out

Remove the starter motor from the engine and inspect the starter pinion gear, check for wear on the pinion gear, if it has scalloped enough to catch and not be able to retract, check ringgear on flywheel.

Inspect pinion axle shaft, depending on starter motor design, it may have multiple axles, the main place to check is where the pinion slides up to engage the ringgear, bad wear on that shaft can cause the pinion to become stuck engaged.

Last test is to fire up the starter out of the car, and see if the pinion fails to retract after the solenoid feed is stopped.

Noisy starter motor over-run (motor car)

This can be caused by a bad rebuild or a worn starter where the drive gear does not retract all the way OR.... needs to be shimmed properly to correct for wear. This is because the starter gear will engage and not have enough clearance to retract and work properly. Check these items and let me know.

Could you tell me if my mini one convertible has a fuse box that can stop my roof retracting fully it will retract as far back as a sun roof and the other buttons lower the back windows but it will not...

If it open's. but not all the way, then the fuse is good, no other fuse to open all the way, same fuse, the problem is with the retracting assembly, will have to take it in for service.

I have a Glacier Bay(Costco) kitchen faucet. The hose is counter-balanced with a weight that doesn't allow the hose to retract completely into the faucet, leaving about 2 inches to dangle out of the...

Check the weight and see if it has screws in it to move in on the hose line the distance it lacks retracting.

Most of them can be adjusted to proper retracting mode. It may have a couple of screws in it.
