Amp will not power on at all all of a sudden, fuses look fine

I have a 400 watt Krunch amp and two 10-inch subs. They have been working fine until a few days ago. The fuses are not blown. The wiring looks ok from what I can see. The amp will not power on at all. What can I do to find the problem before putting the car in the shop to have the wiring redone?

Thanks for your help. The protect light nor power light comes on. The ground, power, and remote wires are still in tact. I noticed a thick, black wire that is loose and cannot see where or if it's supposed to be connected to the amp. Do you know what this black wire may be for?

Hello schapman81,

You do not say if there are any indications or errors displayed.

I'd recommend you follow the troubleshooting steps here starting at Step 2 (B+ and Remote Voltage:). This should tell you if there's a problem in the wiring or if the amp itself has failed.

Hope this helps.

    Hello again schapman81,

A "thick black wire" could very well be a ground. Or it could be part of the vehicle wiring and not meant to be connected to the amp.

With the vehicle ignition and head unit OFF, check the DC voltage between the power and ground connections on the amp. The meter should read between about 12V and 14V. If you get voltage OK, turn the ignition and head unit on and test between the remote and ground. Again, you should read about 12V to 14V. If you get voltage here, too, the amp is probably defective.

If you did not get voltage in the initial test with the ignition off, check the primary amp fuse, usually located near the battery.

If you did not get voltage in the second test, your head unit is not putting voltage on the remote wire. Remove the remote wire from the amp and run a "temporary" wire from a fused accessory terminal (only hot when the ignition is on or in accessory). If the amp then comes on, the problem is the remote turn-on from the head unit.

I have 2 12 inch kicker rt dual 2 ohm subs. On a kicker cx1200.1 i want to kno how to hook it up to 2ohm to the amp. And if i can add another 10 inch kicker rt 2ohm sub in the future.

Do to the impedance Of your sub u can't run it @2ohms its going to either be @1ohm or 4ohms and your amp isn't 1ohm stable and u will risk damaging your amp. So your only option is to run it @4ohms and on a good note your sub is 100-600 watts RMS and your amp will push 400-500 watts RMS @4ohms. Now if you want to run 2 sub's in the future That amp will work perfect because it pushes 1,200watts RMS @2ohms and to wire your 2 sub's @1ohm just follow the steps in the image below. Hope this helped.25345194-v0hbouy2nvquqteoroa5j5rq-3-0.png

2 12" subs + 600W amp. Turn on, goes boom once, then red light

Is your gain all the way up? If it done this before, sounds like your over working the amp. Make sure your subs ohm load is capable with the amp load to. If they are 1 ohm and your amp is only 2 ohm stable, it would beat for a lil bit then go into protection mode to. Check your wires too.

Getting my son a sony xplod xm-1652 2 channel what subs would sound good and the things says 1000x2 and 500x2 what is the truth

165 watts x 2 @ 4ohms and 200-230 watts@ 2 ohms or 400-460 watts bridged into a 4 ohm mono load is what the amp will actually do. A single 12 inch sub or a pair of 10 inch subs or 12s would be great

Hello king3132,

Three 4 ohm subs can be wired parallel for a 1.34 ohm final load or series for a 12 ohm load. If you have the channels of the amp bridged, I hope that the subs are connected in series because the Sony XM-2200GTX is NOT rated for or stable at 1.34 ohms. It's only stable down to 4 ohms.

You definitely will not get the maximum potential of the subs from that amp. They can handle 400 watts RMS each (total 1,200 watts) and the amp is only capable of 500 watts RMS into 4 ohms (less at higher impedance), so each sub could only be getting a maximum of 166.6 watts RMS.

Hope this helps.

SHOULD I GO AHEAD AND BUY A 400 WATT AMP?

All amps aren't created equal. More exspense amps put out "cleaner" power. You need to know what the RMS power rating is for the amp at 8 ohms and 4 ohms. Also, is the speaker an 8 or 4 ohm speaker? How you wire a speaker or speakers (series or paralell) can change the ohms (resistence) which will change the power put out of the amp. Also, I'm assuming you are setting it up in mono?

Problem when hooking two 12 inch subs to one amp

the amp is no where near strong enough that sound you hear is called hard clipping and it will destroy your subs in minutes. depending on what model JL subs you have I can sell you a better amp.

Speakers

Hi Trim God,

I do not reccommend that you push the Pioneer speakers over 100 watts.  The jenson will already drown the car with bass through your pioneers so much you will want to turn off the bass boost when playing some low bass hip hop songs. It changes from one venue of song to another, so I just keep the jenson bass boost off and use my head unit to adjsut the sound to fit my listening prefences. I am telling you man, you will be blown away .  Hook up the pioneers straight to the Channels,. do not bridge.  I put Subs in my truck though.  I used the Pass output to send the audio to me Jenson 2 Channel 600W amp. I drive one 10 inch enclosed JBL Class A/B Sub. I bridged the output of the 600 W amp to the 10 inch sub  in my Z28.  The pioneers never get drowned out.  I did smoke my 2 channel Amp one time. and also took out a MTD 10inch sub. I am talk shooting flames and smoked the whole car up. I think if you bride the XA4150 to the pioneers, you will have the flaming smoke problem in no time.
