I would check to see if the clutch is acutally OK. Start by unhooking the connector at the deck and supply a 12volt source (has tro bee high amp) to the leads...Be aware! The red(or white or green) is the positive and the black is the negative....don't hook them up wrong. If you've done this and the clutch still won't turn on the blades. then you have to replace the clutch.

Mahindra 6110 2012 Cab Tractor. PTO will not engage even tho all lights come on as normal. Recently had clutch replaced. Any ideas?


Does it engage by an electrical switch or by a handle that you pull or push. If it is by a handle then make sure when they changed the clutch that they got all the linkages reconnected - if that is all there then there should be a sight cover to the pto clutch and make sure that the throwout bearing is in the proper location. If it engages by an electrical switch, make sure all the fuses are good and there is no connections left loose nor a harness or wire showing signs of being pinched or cut. An electrical switch activated PTO will have some kind of a motor somewhere that moves the clutch make sure that it is connected and it is also bolted up right and have somebody flip the switch and see if it's actually working - if motor hums momentarily or continously (parts missing).

I have a Toro LX 500 Lawn tractor the pto clutch will not engage, I have 13 volt at the plug for the clutch , so ordered and installed new clutch... Still will not engage checked volts again had 9.3


PTO Clutch will not stay engaged.

My JD tech manual, which covers the entire LA 100 series, agrees with the electrical specifications. It states that the Electric PTO Clutch should show the following:
  • Resistance 3.7 ohms
  • Current Draw 3.25 amps.
It does not give the air gap. It does include a note to check the PTO Clutch Key for damage or if missing. So there is a drive key between the PTO Clutch and the shaft. Additionally, it recommends checking the tightness of the cap screw. That's the screw or bolt that holds the clutch on the shaft.
  • Cap Screw torque 55 lb-ft (75 N.m).

Blows a fuse every time I engage the cutting deck


it is not supposed to start unless some one is in the seat
now for your problem, if engaging the cutter deck blows a fuse then check the wiring for a wire that is cut or shorting out on a lever that moves when the cutter is engaged

When I pull the PTO switch out, the PTO does not activate.


These switches are usually of the DPDT type which means they can partially work. What you need to do to find the wiring connector at the PTO electric clutch and test for the activation voltage. It will be the same as your battery voltage when the engine not running. If this voltage is there with the PTO switch in the engage postion then electric has failed. You can also check the clutch electric coil resistance with power off. It should be between 1.5 to 2.5 ohms. Anything under 1.5 indicates a shorted winding and anything over indicates an open winding.

The pto will not engage when switch to turned on


The light just indicates power is available for the PTO clutch. It doesn't it reaching the clutch. You need to unplug the PTO clutch and check to see if voltage is there. If it is there then clutch itself is bad or the wiring from the connector to clutch is broken. If no power at the connector then you have wiring problem and may even have part of the PTO switch not working.

Cub Cadet 1861 amp light comes on when the PTO is engaged and after mowing for a short time the PTO disengages and now the 30 amp fuse blows and stops the engine


Sounds like you have a short circuit, either in the PTO clutch, or in the wiring that goes to it. Inspect the wiring for any obvious spots where insulation has rubbed off or burned. Also look at the wiring at the back of the PTO engagement switch for these signs. Before buying an expensive PTO clutch, unplug its connector. Drive around with the PTO switch on (even though the PTO won't activate and the blades won't be engaged). If the fuse doesn't blow, the problem must be within the PTO clutch. If the fuse still blows, it must be in the PTO switch or the wiring from there to the clutch. Use an ohmmeter to trace and find the short. Good luck!

Depending on the age of the mower, it sounds like a wire has wiggled lose, or the switch itself has gone bad. I would check the wiring to the switch and to the pto clutch and ensure that all wires are secure, free of corrosion. If this still doesn't fix the issue, install new switch. This appears to be entirely and electrical issue, and is a cheaper troubleshooting method before tearing down the pto engagement system.

PTO clutch will not engage.


first start by turning ign on,then switch on the pto switch to on. you should hear a click in the clutch. if not use a twelve volt test light,hook aligator end to a good groundand the needle end,,,touch to the pto switchharness to see if you have power to the pto switch. if you don"t, you have to go checkfurther to your power source,(battery) if you do have power there check to see if you have power at the plugin at the end of your wire harness, just at the beginning of where your cluch connects up. you can test you clutch by conneting a test wire from positive on your battery to one of the terminals on your clutch and the other terminal to ground . It willengage if it is good .using either wire is ok as all it will be doing is completing a circuit. hope this helps.
