Question about Kenmore 55612 / 55614 / 5561 / 655619 Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

My Kenmore 90's series washing machine will not move into the spin and rinse cycle unless we use a screwdriver to put pressure on the switch. Does this mean the switch is bad? The spin cycle or draining will not start at all now. I used to be able to hold it down with a screw driver but that won't work know either. I really don't know what needs done to get it going again. Any suggestions are welcome!

It was loose, I tightened it. I still have the same problem. I belief I just have to replace the lid switch

Originally it worked as it should, close lid and it works
Then it worked only if you banged the lid (jarring what I now know as the lid switch)
Finally, it does not work whatsoever, I must assume I need to replace the lid switch, that being that case, how do I go about doing that?

I'll try that out when I get my part, thanks

The switch is probably still good unelss pressing on it has damged it (not that it would necessarily).

It sounds like the switch is loose in its mount -- can you check that -- can you move it around a lot?

The switch: is it the one the lid/door presses when it closes?

I looked at a picture of the machine. It appears that the top of the washer pops up by inserting a large flat tip screwdriver into the seam between the top and the bottom of the cabinet and prying upward. Do this on each front corner, the lid should come up.

Raise the lid and you'll see how to remove the lid switch. It has a connector on it which pulls off. Put in new switch, put on connector.

Kenmore 80 series washing machine - won't stop filling with water on rinse cycle - never moves to next cycle - if I stop machine and manually move to spin, the machine does spin and the water drains

Your air pressure tube going to the water level switch is pinched or stopped up,OR, the water level switch is going bad.
Use this manual to access these parts and diagnose which is bad.

Kenmore 90 series top load washer: won't agitate or spin

Sorry to give you bad news but this sounds too much like the transmission is shot. It's a bit of work to change and probably some luck to find one at a reasonable price, so my advice is to ditch this machine and get another. :(

The timer you have has a bunch of small gears inside. The case is made of plastic. Yes the timer is most likely shot.To get the timer off you grab the black plastic rod in back out and this releases the knob. Then you can access the screws holding the timer on.ec1c7f4.jpg

Manually move the timer to the SPIN mode and turn it on.
If nothing happens, replace the lid switch.
With a model number I could be more specific.
