478 PENTIUM 4 MOTHERBOARD (intell) d845ebg2

When i turn plug in the power supply into the wall, a small green light on the mother board turns on, when i hit the power switch on the front of the case nothing happens. (the cpu fan doesn't turn on, hard drives don't boot up ect.) . after about 30 sec, thier is a really high pitched, but really quite noise.

it has a new 1.7ghz processor in it, and two sticks of ram (fully seated and latched in place)

(the front of the case wires are correctly placed and secured onto the board as well)

Is the board bad, or is it possible im over looking something?
has anyone else ahd the same issue?

my e-mail addy is redfiretruck@hotmail.com

    Try leaving onlty one stick of ram in with
    everything else disconnected. The high pitch may be the CPU when the fan does not run. Can you turn the cpu fan easily. Is the CPU fan and heat sink clean?

The green led light on the motherboard mean the board has stand- by power to it. (This is normal).
You stated you installed a new CPU.
The high pitch you heard could mean you did not add thermal grease or thermal tap between the processor & the heat-sink assembly. (A must have product). When you press the power on button on the case & nothing seems to run, Re check your memory & as Smithbrother suggested insert one stick of memory at a time & try powering up the system. If you have an AGP card already installed, re-move it & re-seat it.
Intel list a bios update. This update is for - B-0014.
Fixed the issue with booting using 2.0Ghz processor.
Your new CPU of 1.7 is close. (Not sure if this will fix your problem. Save flashing the bios as a last ditch effort).
Here is the Intel link for your motherboard;

Just in case I'll include a YouTube video on how to install a CPU;

Good luck!

Compaq Deskpro EN 1GHz. power supply is ok. But not start with power on button. Green LED on mother board is on. How can I start this with start button (I think motherboard board problem.

Unplug it from the wall. Remove the side panel. Look for a small circular battery (similar to watch battery). Remove the battery for 30 seconds. Replace the battery, plug it back in. This should reset the bios. Green light on the board does not necessarily say good power supply as well. Very likely motherboard or power supply.

This mother board support dual core proccessor

This motherboard is built with the Intel 845 chipset and is socket 478. This particular motherboard will not support a dual core processor of any kind. This board will only support a standard socket 478 Pentium 4 processor at best. I do not know of any that will support anything better than a Pentium 4 2.8GHz processor with a 400MHz F.S.B.

Thise is Fred. A few days ago i assembled a Pentium 4

Some fans are controlled by temperature-sensitive sensors.
So, if the motherboard is "cool enough", the speed of the fan will be reduced to "zero".

Sometimes, a motherboard can enter "standby" mode.
This mode consumes only a small amount of power;
and the fan will be stopped, because the cooling it provides is not needed.

About motherboard intel 845 GL/GE

Try another power supply. The motherboard LED is telling you the board is in standby mode. Once you power up & LED goes out it's telling you there is a possible power supply problem.

The manual you need will be on the board manufacturers web page, howevr I will bet you have the case power switch and perhaps the reset switch on the wrong pins on the mother board. To check this, remove the switch leads from the mother board, then use a small screw driver and bridge the pins on the mother board a pair at a time. All of these leads plug on to the board in a line and not across the two lines of pins. when you get the mother board to fire up by this method geet a torch and look closely alongside the pins you will see the letters PWR SW or RS SW. It does not matter what polarity these two sets of leads are plugged onto both will work. The LED lights on the case front will only work if the polarity is correct but it will not do any harm if they are backwords. On the board you should se two sets of pins marked HDD and PWR these are the led light pins you will know you have them right when the usual red and green lights are working at the front of your tower.
