If you suspect you have a defective timer it can easily be replaced by performing the following steps:

1. Unplug washing machine... and pull out the timer knob. Some knobs have a removeable center cap and hidden screw. Some are simply slip-fit. Remove the knob.

2. Remove console. This can be accomplished in one of two ways depending on which type of console you have.

a. If the console has removable end caps, the caps lift off by prying on the top from the back of the washer.
The cap will pull off towards you as you are facing the unit from the front of the washer.
There will be a screw under each end cap that you will need to remove.

b. If the console does not have removable end caps, you will need to slide a putty knife under the front corner of each side and push in while lifting up.
There is a retaining clip under each side that has to be released.

3. Once the console has been released it will lift up and fold back over the back of the washer in its resting position. Use care not to stress the small plastic hinges that hold it on. They can break easily.

4. Disconnect all power plugs and remove the timer's mounting screws.

5. Reinstall reverse of removal.

You probably need a new agitator coupler. Part number: WH49X10042. To check it remove the agitator by yanking straight up on it. It should pop right off, there are no screws to remove. Under it will be a plastic coupler that has a 7/16 bolt in the top of it. Without removing the bolt see if the coupler will spin. It shouldn't. If it does spin remove the bolt and pull the coupler off. It is sitting on the top of your transmission. If you see oil around the inside of the coupler or pooled where the tranny-splines enter the neck, you will need a new transmission as well. Let me know if that happens. Hopefully, it is just the coupler. Make sure to clean the trans splines well. The plastic teeth from the coupler will need to be removed from the splines. They come out easy but make sure to get them all. It can be tough to get on and tougher to get back off if you don't get it clean enough. Consider putting some petroleum jelly around the splines before pushing the coupler into place. The coupler will come with a new bolt so do what it takes to get the old one off. usually they are no problem. If the coupler doesn't spin let me know.

Describe your 24032 \ 24036 Top Load Washer Problem changed the motor coupler and now the motor won't work. washer fills up but won't agitate or spin or drain

Sounds as if your lid switch is open. You can by pas it under the control panel on the right in the back it is a the wire plug. Connect the black and brown on the switch side which will allow you to just plug a new one when or if you deciced you needed this "safety" feature. Do not put any part of your body in machine while spinning. Your welcome, Masta tech.

We have a Hot Point washer, model #V1WSR4162G1WW. The agitaor won't spin. I looked on Hot Point web site for help, but it doesn't list our model number. Can you help?

Typically the model number on hotpoint is 4 letter first and then a combo of numbers and letters
is should start as VWSR------------
so when i searched without the 1 after the V i found your model and believe the coupler between the agitator and transmission is stripped that is fairly common and fairly easy to repair. This youtube video will show you exactly how to replace that coupler the part number for that coupler kit is WH49X10042 it could be purchased at your local appliance parts store,or on online at;

I hope this will help you be able to repair your washer,

Ge frontload washer seems like it is not aggitating... what would be the problem???

Hello there:

The first thing to check when your GE washer is not agitating, is the belt. Let me tell you how to check the belt & the clutch with out having to take the washer apart.

The belt: Set the timer in the spin cycle and pull the timer knob to turn the washer on.
If the washer drains the water and then spins the way that it should, this tells you that the motor, belt & clutch are not the reason why your washer won't agitate.
A broken belt could be the reason your washer is not agitating or spinning.

The agitator: After making sure that the belt, motor & clutch are working ok, lets check the agitator.
The agitator uses a plastic agitator coupler that is couple to the transmission shaft by using splines cut in the coupler and on the transmission shaft.
Too much usage or overloading the washer too many times will wear the agitator coupler splines. With out the splines the coupler could not be coupled to the transmission shaft and that could be the cause why your washer is not agitating.

The clutch: A bad clutch could also be the reason the washer won't agitate or spin. Usually when the clutch is bad the washer will be noisy, like when you have bad brakes on your car.

The transmission: The transmission could be the reason your washer is not agitating. A common problem with the transmission is oil leaking right on top of the motor pulley and the belt.
As you can see, there could be different reasons why your GE washer is not agitating. You just need to keep checking each part until you find the problem and replace the part responsible.

GE Washer WJSR2080V3WW will fill, spin and drain but not agitate.

The problem is the agitator coupler (about $ 7.00) simply pull straight up on the agitator - Give it a good tug. take the one bolt holding the coupler off - pull straight off. Replace the coupler and bolt (they are sold together). Line the agitator lines up with the coupler lines - when they line up it should go all the way down and snap back into place. and your done.
