I have this same thing. I crashed on my bike and landed on the mp3 player. I have opened it up and messed with it. Tugging on the ribbon and moving it in different directions made the text appear one time. I have never been able to duplicate it since.

Nothing shows up on the screen

You most likely have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp or simply the video cable needs reseating. After reseating the video cable and the problem is still there then :- To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions. Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case. The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills. Check out www.lcdparts.net for parts, repair service and DIY info.

Phone display is very dim-can barely read

Well, first you will have to check your options, if you can read it enough to get in there.  You may have the backlight turned off.  If the backlight is not turned off, then you probably have a bad backlight and will have to take it to your provider to get it fixed.  Replacing a screen/backlight is not something I would attempt to do unless you are certain you know exactly what you are doing as you can render the phone completely useless.

Screen is dark or dead on my 17" Macbook Pro

This could be a backlight issue, a board issue or an inverter issue. Look at the screen closely, if there is a faint image it's either a backlight issue or inverter issue. To weed out between the two you can just order on inverter, they're 20 bucks on ebay, if that doesn't work, replace the backlight. Backlight repairs are somewhat difficult. As much as I would like to be able to tell you a quickfix that will solve backlight the problem, you'll most likely have to google for guides that show you exactly how to replace the backlight or bring it in for repairs.I work for Mac Repair NYC and i have to fix this problem a lot.

MacBook screen dims

first there could be many meanings of dims with a laptop screen one is backlight has turned off and it is difficult to see.  if that is the case use you brightness key to check if it is up, if it is more likely your inverter has gone up and in worse cases the screen. it may also start bright then change dim while loading
there is also the feature on mac to automatically dim the screen a little when unused for a set time.  to change this go to system preferences, go to energy saver, click show details, then move to options, and uncheck the the box that says "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep".
i hope this is what you are talking about.

No screen power

Look a the screen real close, if you see a faint dark version of the image, this could be a backlight issue, otherwise a screen cable or a logic board issue. Backlight repairs are somewhat difficult. As much as I would like to be able to tell you a quickfix that will solve backlight the problem, it's a pretty arduous repair that requires 1-2 hours for a trained person. It's feasible to do it yourself if you're tech savy, but you'll most likely have to google for guides that show you exactly how to replace the backlight step by step. Check on how to take the screen apart and make sure inverter is still connected properly. If the inverter is connected and you still don't have light, then you have a backlight issue. I work for Computer Repair NYC and i have to fix this problem a lot, it's so easy to break the lightbulb in the process.

easy fix my friend its temporary firmware problem . ok now to fix it plug the sansa in your pc ,just doing so can fix the problem if not ,unplug it from the pc the unit should have stayed on (the blue LED's of the wheel r on but no screen backlight) push the ON button on the side and hold it push for a good 20 secon then releass it that will make the unit do a soft reset and then turn it back on again it may chow the low bat simbol just plug it back in your pc the screen will show the turning arrow the backlight of the screen will work, let it recharge and there you go fix.
