Question about Husqvarna Lawn Tractor 48" Deck, 23 Hp, Model# Yth2348

1 Answer

I have a 2005 husqvarna lawn tractor. 24 hp, 48 in deck, the transmission runs fine on level ground but when i go to an incline the tranny slips and i hear a clunking sound, and if i travel farther up hill it comes completely out of gear. now this only happens in forward not reverse, reverse is fine but its hard to cut the lawn going 1 mph backwards.

Sorry. I don't have an ansewer for you however I might have some helpful hints. Your mower should be going dam near 5 MPH. But yes can't cut in reverse. you have a belt going from the trans axle to the motor. It could be slapping against the frame. The idler puller or the tension pulley could be wobaly where the bearings are gone out. If you remove the 4 bolts on the back of the mower under the seat and gas tank it should visable tell you the story. My question is mine hits gears real hard as if trans mission needs oil or internal damage.

Then you need to get a replacement transmission. Model is stamped on the bottom, do a search on ebay, maybe get lucky as those things are not cheap.

Lawn tractor won't go forward or reverse

If the engine is running normally and the drive belt between the engine and the transmission is in good shape, most likely you have a failed hydrostatic transmission.

Transmission belt slips, can it be adjusted to tighten

You can replace the drive belt, and make sure the springs on the tensioner and clutch pulleys are good, but the belt itself has no adjustment. They stretch a bit with age, also not uncommon for the transmissions to go bad which means slow or no movement even though the engine runs normally.

Was mowing when it just stopped going forward. It won't go forward or backward. Husqvarna Lawn tractor 48"

Under the mower below the seat of the rider, at the rear of the tractor, look up and you will find the transmission there. There is a belt that runs on the pulley under there, and this belt can slip off when it gets worn or stretched. Sort of a tough spot to get to but, that is most probably cause.

Let me know,

Have a 48' 23 hp husqvarna lawnmower, it drives fine, but when I go uphill it slows down quite a bit. Why?

Same reason a person slows down when he is riding a bicycle up a hill?
Does the engine nearly die when you engage the blades on the fly?
If so you may have a dead cylinder, my 2148 would mow on the flat pretty well but not an incline with one cylinder. Cause of my dead cylinder was bent pushrods, which is not unusual on V-Twin B&S. You can test this by pulling one spark plug wire off at a time and running it.

check under the deck and see if you have something wrapped around the blades and locking them up. Make sure you can turn the blades by hand. I had this happen with some barbed wire on my mower last summer. hope this helps you
