Question about Beyond Micro (BM120MD3U2) 120 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

1 Answer

I have a Beyond Micro MobileDisk 300GB 5400/2MB Ext HDD. My Dell Inspiron 1721 laptop with Window Vista won't recognize this external hard drive. Is there a new driver to download or some other way to fix this? The green light is on on the front of the external hard drive but I don't find it on my computer.

I am giving you magic out of my pendora box..........
As your system has got infection so booting it normally actually wont help you much so kindly boot your system in safemode with networking and download following
1.Malawarebytes.exe
2.Trojan Remover.exe
And
3Combofix
Now update it and run them one by one in sequence ,This will free your system from any harmfull infection may it be ,you ve mentioned that you are not able to open the pen drive it is because of trojan so keep your removable media plugged and then after finishing operation in safe mode run the same in normal mode
Now these steps not omly fixes the problem but makes your pc 20-30 times fast depending upon configuration as ypur sytem performace will be automatically optimized and prevent and future intrusion

First things first .....check for power cable and data cable and make sure they are not tampered or damaged now move to next step>>>
kindly remove all jumpers in HDD now go to
Control panel>Administrative tool>Computer management>Disk management
you can see the disk here and change settings accordingly like assigning path and drive letter if this does not work
then just see that is it recognized in device manager as unrecognized device then update driver for HDD even now if the problem persists
KIndly consult the manufacturer
One more thing you asked about drivers let me inform you that OS Drivers natively supports this
device

Thanks And Regards

I found that often, external hard drives just don't have any active partitions and thus don't show up in Windows. Go into the control panel, administrative tools, computer management and then the disk manager and see if it has a partition. If it's just unallocated space, right click and make one.

your HDD may be corrupted, re-installing windows vista is one option. Your best bet is if you have/ can obtain a copy of windows vista run setup and try the repair wizard in the windows vista setup, the wizard automatically finds errors and missing files and replaces them therefore solving any errors in your HDD. you can also try to use the recovery wizard from your recovery disc. best of luck

Hi, first of all have you tried to run the diagnostics just to ensure the hardware functionality of your computer? if not, here's how: As the computer boots, press when the Dell Splash Screen appears. When the Boot menu appears, highlight the Boot to Utility Partitionoption, or the Diagnostics option and then press to start the 32-bit Dell Diagnostics. Press the key to highlight Test System Press to continue to 32-bit Diagnostics. Note: Express Test is the only test that will not require user involvement.
If there's no error found, that means, that your hardware most esp the hard drive (HDD) that came with your system is perfectly working fine and this isolated your issue that it's the operating system problem. It's good to know that you attempted to rebuild the OS just make sure it's the recovery cd that came with the computer. try to boot from the OS cd once again and reload / reinstall Vista. Dell inspiron 1721 hard drive not recognized for Vista reinstall

ok, theres a small issue with the raid controller. You have to install a 3rd party raid driver (its on the dell cd) to continue, OR, you can set that BIOS's hard drive controls to ATA or LEGACY (legacy would likely work best, but youd have no 'raid' functions, but who sets up raid drives on a notebook?). Your last option is use the dell discs to restore, and inssert the windws disc when prompted

Try restarting, and pressing f2 to access the bios, and making sure the bios is recognizing the hard drive..

If it is not, you will need to flash the bios for your machine..

I cant get the dell vista os reestore disk to boot up

Use external USB CD/DVD Drive to run your Windows Vista Operating System to Restore Disk.
Maybe your Built-in CD/DVD cannot read or access your OS.

If you don't have this device, you try another Windows Vista OS Disc.
Good luck!

You can try opening the device manager in Window XP and uninstall the external hard disk (make sure you show unplugged devices).
Then replug the drive again, and it should reinstall the drivers.
