How-to move cursor ?

Can you tell me how to move the cursor on my just-purchased Toshiba Satellite 2520 laptop ? Do I need a mouse ? The arrow keys do not move it--- I always thought the 2 elongated bar-keys just below the main set keyboard were for this.

    Thnx asnowman.

This doesn't have that square, though I know what you're talking about.

I've tried all kinds of combinations with those 2 elongated keys like holding down ctrl, alt, caps-lock, even all the f1 buttons whilst using every arrow key. The top elongated bar does nothing, the bottom only opens a side-window of "arrange-icons" options.

The up-down arrow keys only highlight desktop icons, the cursor just stays at bottom right.

Yeah, finding straight out pics isn't so easy, usually just get specs.

    Here's a faily decent image:

If there is a black square in the middle below the keybord, that is what is called a glidepoint. You just use your finger to glide the mouse arrow around inside of that box. The bars are for the mouse buttons.
If you are like me, I like to hook up a regular mouse via USB and use the regular mouse instead.

I hope that I have provided the correct information that will assist you in the resolution of this issue. If you have any questions, please post back with a comment to this thread.

I tried to find a picture of your laptop and couldn't, so I guess I tried. If I could find a picture I could most likely help you more. Thanks

I got a look at the picture, is there a green looking eraser type post above the V or the B. That may be your mouse. Hope this helps.

Sign in on toshiba moves to start but arrow disappears so it wont work

If the cursor highlight is positioned over the START button (icon) then you can select it by pressing ENTER or SPACE bar, which is the keyboard equivalent of double clicking with the mouse. To move between the fields, press the TAB key (shift TAB to go backwards or to the previously selected field).

However, the question is not clearly stated...

Touchpad not active

Press the "Fn" and "F9" keys simultaneously.
Test your touchpad. If it works, it was simply disabled. Press the same key combination any time you want to toggle your touchpad on or off.
Plug an external mouse into a USB port on your laptopicon1.png if the key combination didn't work. Follow onscreen prompts to install the mouse driver--if necessary. You can also move the cursor using the "Tab" key and the arrow keys, as well as click by pressing "Enter" until the mouse is operational.
Click the link in the Resources section if you are using a Toshibaicon1.png Satellite with Windows Vista. Follow the onscreen prompts to download and re-install the driver.
Open a web browser and navigate to Synaptics.com if you have a different Toshiba model or operating system. Synaptics brand touchpads are used in all Toshiba laptops, and this site provides a generic driver.Hover your mouse over "Support" on the top menu, then select "Drivers" from the drop-down menu.
Select your operating system from the list provided and download the generic driver
Follow the onscreen prompts to install your new driver, and then test the touchpad again. If it still does not work, take your laptop to a licensed repair technician.

I have a Toshiba LapTop Windows 7 My granddaughter pushed keys and now i can't get the cursor to move. I have tried shutting down and it is still frozen in the middle .

Are you using the trackpad to manipulate the cursor, or are you using an external mouse?

If you're using the trackpad, it may be as simple as using the Fn keys and the corresponding F keys at the top of the keyboard to enable the trackpad feature again. If that doesn't work, try plugging in an external mouse via USB port to see if that works.
If you're using an external mouse, then try to see if the cursor moves while using the trackpad.

Hopefully one of these options will give you control back over your cursor again.

Mouse wont move the cusur

Connect another mouse to the computer and see if that is able to move the cursor. This will tell you if it's the mouse or trackpad that is having trouble, or if it's the computer/software having the trouble.
