Dig out as much of the coffee as you can then rinse under ho water faucet in kitchen sink until coffee is dissolved or flushed. You could also try soaking portafilter in a solution of purocaff or cleancaff be careful though you do not want the plastic parts in the solution for too long.

Steam blows out of valve rather than up through the top

Make sure your grinds are ground properly. If you try a different coffee and it still continues the valve may be no good. Also remove the screen on the top half and make sure the passage to the top is clear.

I just purchased a Bialetti stainless steel 6-cup stove top espresso maker. I cleaned it, assembled it according to the instructions, and went to brew my first coffee. I didn't grind the coffee too fine,...

There is a valve in the compartment where you place your fresh, cold water. This valve must not be covered as it is necessary in building up steam pressure to push the brewed espresso upwards. Also, most stove espresso makers have a rubber type gasket that is usually placed on the base of the upper part of the maker. Check that you have a gasket.

How much coffee would it take to make the 55 cups in this coffee maker, and can you use the same coffee as you use for drip machines?

Your model sounds like the West Bend 59055 - Large Coffee Urn, 60 Cup.
The User Manual for your coffer urn can be found here:

http://www.westbend.com/supportdata/L5613B_LargeCapacityUrns-All.pdf

Instruction for making coffee can be found on page 5. For 55 cups is would take 3 1/4 cups of coffee.

Use an electric perc or regular grind coffee; if you grind your own this should be a medium to coarse grind.

Do not use 'drip' or finely ground coffee as this could plug the drain holes in the basket and cause the urn to flood.

The SUP018 machine will not grind. I clean the grinder as per the instructions. I can get one grind from it and then it will not work until I take it apart again. Thanks for any assistance you can give...

Hi...

How old is your machine?
Saeco uses ceramic instead of steel for its grinders. While this may make for a less "metallic" or bitter cup of coffee, the ceramic (sadly) doesn't last as long.

I'd suggest getting it serviced, one way or another. It seems fairly clear to me that something is worn & needs replacement. (If it's still under warranty, so much the better!)

Good luck!

Coffee machine blocked

it could be grind stuck in the (yes the, as in the only) hole in the filter cup. remove the filter cup from the cup holder (the thing with the black handle) and use the tiny pin in the little brown tool to push out whatever is in there. you may have used to fine a grind or stuffed the filter cup too much. careful, that is how you break the plastic filter holder ring.

for calcifying, i just use plain white vinegar. i put it in straight into the clear water holder, about 3/4 cup, then i run it throuhg a bit, let it sit 5 min, run it through a bit, let it sit 30 min to an hour. depending on the day, i repeat a few times, rinse with clean water. i do this about every 2 months.

My single cup portofilter on my ECM Giotto suddendly is pouring more coffee then it should. I'm using the same grind I've been using forever. My other portofilter (2 cup) works fine and still produces the...

How old is the coffee being used? Normally if you change baskets, the grind should be the same, because the single basket has finer and less holes in it than the double basket. The only difference would be the tamp then, since the coffee grinds works great with the double basket. You would also have to use a different volume of water to produce the coffee. To produce 2 ounces of espresso you need about 3 ozs of water,(about an ounces of water will remain in the coffee).

Vev Vigano Carioca Nero Espresso Maker..what kind of grind to use

Use fine grind for espresso, darker roasted bean blend on Italian roast style are better, they are stronger and oily, perfect for expresso machines like this.

One of the best available here is this: Lavazza Qualita Rossa Ground Coffee, great brew on Moka style espresso machines.

FRANCIS Francis espresso problem..just barely coming out..

Try removing the metal grille from the machine. I don't know the term, but it's held in with a single allen screw on the underside of the machine. Don't use the allen key that FrancisFrancis provide, it's made of soft metal and useless. Buy a decent one.

I did this, and found coffee 'goo' a millimetre thick on top of this sheet of metal. Once I'd cleaned it off it was fine. To clean it, I put it into a cup and soaked it with Mr Muscle oven cleaner, left it for an hour, and then scrubbed it clean. I ran a sewing needle across the back to help clear the pinholes.
