    Try this,

The problem is to the update of inetcpl (control panel extension) found in C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB950759-IE7\SP2QFE
rename the 1.74MB version of the file to inetcpl_old

Copy the 353kb Inetcpl found in C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 to the above file.

This should fix the control panel

But you may also need to uninstall and reinstall IE and do a virus scan.

HI,
The most probable cause is that IE explorer has opened in fullscreen mode. Tap on the F11 key once and it would restore it back .
Otherwise , click on start and go to control panel and select internet option, click on the advanced tab and click on reset web settings . Click apply and Ok and you would be back to normal IE settings

Thanks

    Hi,

If the control panel is not opening up Internet options , try doing a system restore , Taking your system back to the date it was working fine.

    Click >start>all programs>accessories >system tools> system restore

    Click on restore my computer

Select a date that is bold when the system was working fine

Click next twice , your system would autmatically restart.

Note: Please disconnect , any peripheral devices like printers, scanner webcams etc. from system.

    Best of Luck

Press the Alt key, it'll bring up the top toolbar. Change the view to include the address bar and whatnot if you want. Them go to the Options menu... If you have the latest version, the graphical menu drawer is just 3 horizontal lines. Under the options/settings first window, you can set your homepage and start page.

Make google your homepage

In Internet Explorer. Go to Tools in the upper left hand corner, then in that box click internet options at the bottom. A box will pop open.

In the top of that box will be an address. Delete it and type www.google.com then hit ok at the bottom. Do not hit apply, hit ok. Should be good to go. Open a new webpage to make sure it stuck.

As a side note, if you don't see the line on top of your screen that says file, view, favorites, tools, and help do this...right click with your mouse on the top of the page ABOVE (not in) the address bar and make sure "menu bar" is checked.

The answer depends on what program you are using. However, usually hitting the Alt button while in the program will bring a file menu back into play.

Had the same problem. Went to the IE8 home page (Microsoft). They are supporting IE8 at no cost until Dec 31. Wait time was minimal, tech took control of my computer and fixed the problem you described in a few seconds. Sorry, I do not remember the exact steps.
