Question about Porter Cable 3" x 21" Electronic Variable Speed Sander

1 Answer

I have a 352VS Porter Cable sander. It started running intermittently and then died. I checked the power cord and switch with a meter and they were good. Do you have any idea what the problem could be? Thanks- Jim

Please help me find a free owners manual for my porter cable 352vs belt sander

The ServiceNet site has the manual for most Porter Cable power tools here: http://servicenet.portercable.com/ . The 352VS documentation is here: http://servicenet.portercable.com/Products/Detail/352VS . Look in the right hand column for the Instruction Manual; you'll see an option to download a PDF or have the manual sent by email. However, you need to look at the sander and attempt to find the Type number. This will be on the label with the model and serial number. There are 7 different belt sanders that were released with the 352VS model number. Use this number to get the details for your sander. The direct link to the manual for the Type 1 version, today, is http://servicenet.portercable.com/Products/GetDocument?docName=EnA00111.pdf&productId=55856&productType=12187&documentId=32863&translatedFileName=http://documents.dewalt.com/documents/English/Instruction%20Manual/Porter-Cable/EnA00111.pdf .

I hope this helps.

My porter cable belt sander 352vs just went dead. I was using it for about 15 minutes and then it died with no warning signs. I subsequently plugged it into a variety of outlets thinking that was the...

Unplug the the sander open the plate to the power cord check for broken wires. Use a Digital Multimeter on the cord to find hidden broken wires in the insulation, if the power cord checks out fine it is in the motor or the switch check the switch and wires with the Digital Multimeter if the switch is fine it is in the motor replace whatever you find that is bad.

Porter cable 352vs manual

My Porter Cable 352vs Belt Sander was clogged from sanding epoxy, wet wood, something like that. No dust collection at all.
I had to remove 4 screws on the housing, one screw under the front handle and another below the rear handle. The housing came out very easily (with a little wiggle). Pay very close attention to where the position of your plastic fan housing sits. It will only be installed in one spot.
http://www.ereplacementparts.com/images/porter_cable/352_TYPE_1.pdf
The pdf diagram was not exactly correct on the housing placement.
Once opened, The wood and epoxy were caked in everyplace. I brushed them out and replaced the screws.

Good as new.

Good luck.

Have a porter cable 352vs 3"x21" belt sander. was using it and blue sparks started occuring in the rotor and brush assembly. kept using as I needed to try and finish my project. No longer...

this tool has various type numbers but I checked on the type 5-6 and came up with the same number. the brush number I found is NO30461 and they run from around 3.50 to 4.00 each. If you have removed the brushes if the spring is burnt/collapsed it could have been from a loose brush cap or worse an armature problem. Before I sent it out for repair I would look at the brushes, UNPLUG tool first and remove them after removing look into the brush holder and see if the commutator (part of armature you can see) and see if it is discolored or other obvious imperfections. You can buy replacement brushes online from "ereplacementparts.com" or direct from "dewaltservicenet.com". Let me know if you need more assistance before voting and thank you.

After installing new belt, on Porter Belt Sander 352VS #6 the belt drifts of to one side until it comes completely off. How do I stop this?

There is a tracking adjustment knob on the side of the sander--adjust one way or the other until it tracks properly. This is something that will change by itself as the sander is being used--check periodically.

Porter cable 352vs belt sander wont run.... was running fine grinding down subfloor untill the end of the day...next day it won't start at all? any ideas?

The very first thing I would check is the condition of the motor's brushes. I'd bet just about anything that they're just worn down passed the limit length. I have the same model PC belt sander... and have used it to do that very same task... I came upon your query because I'm shopping for new brushes. This is a very easy fix by the way.
