Very Loud Since Replacing Cutter Block

I just replaced the cutter block and now the razor is very loud.  It seems to be vibrating a lot more than before as if the mechanism that comes out of the razor is no longer securely connected to the razor.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Re: Very Loud Since Replacing Cutter Block

Replace the drive unit yourself it is easy
Buy the drive unit $25:
Open the shaver:
1) Use a small flat screw driver pry off the bottom (where the cord plugs in)
2) Remove the silver sides
3) Using a small torq driver remove the 4 scews
4) Open shaver
5) Remove circuit board with batteries
6) Remove and replace drive unit
7) Reasemble

Re: Very Loud Since Replacing Cutter Block

One other possibility is that you have not pushed the cutter block all the way in. I had the problem of it popping off and I just needed to push it in a little further. Watch your fingers!

I can't figure out what is wrong. When I try to use the razor the cutter seems frozen and doesnt move side to side. When I take off the foil I see that the cutter seems to move perfectly fine. I then...

If you are having the same problem with both your old and new foils and cutters it sounds like there is a problem with the oscillator in the swivel frame. Sometimes the plastic oscillator inside will partially break and it can not vibrate under the load of the foil and cutters.
This swivel frame is part of the 'drive unit' and can be found available at See link below for item and scroll down the item page for installation video

I have had a Braun 8985 electric shaver for 4 years now. I have recently replaced the cutter block and foil but I am still having a problem with the shaver. It is not unusual for me to have to make 3 or...

The symptoms you describe indicate that the 'drive unit' is the problem. This part includes the swivel frame that the foils and cutters fit onto as well as the motor. Sometimes a piece of the plastic oscillator inside will break. The vibration causes the loud noise and it can not oscillate properly because of the break.
You will find the part needed at See link below for this part and scroll down the screen for helpful installation video

New head

Hello Brian, You can give the folks at a try. They typically stock all the replacement and repair parts for most brands of electric shavers.

Here's a link to their site where you'll find part #5646768 for about $38 for a new set of the cutter head and foil (screen). It's always best to replace BOTH the foil and cutter block (head) at the same time, as any mircro burrs or nicks in the cutter blades will quickly ruin any new foil screen.

As you know, this is the simplest and easiest way to get an electric shaver back to a "like-new" shaving experience.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

The razor head comes loose from the two arms.

The one piece motor drive which also contains the shaver head in the Braun wear out. They can be replaced by yourself or a shaver tech. A good place for parts,

To disassemble the 7000 Series Braun shaver.

Disassembly of the 7000 Braun shaver is basically the same as the 8000 series Braun shaver listed below. The 7000 is actually easier to disassemble as the plastic is much thicker and the bottom socket cover pops right off as there are less tabs and they are bigger.

To disassemble the 8000 Braun Series shaver.

Remove the plastic cover on the bottom that covers the corded socket. Be careful, there are a total of two tabs on the short sides and four very small tabs on the long sides. I usedmy fingernail to create a space big enough to insert the corner of a credit card in the center of the long side opposite the blue light indicator, then gently removed the cover. Using a screwdriver could damage the plastic.

The two sides then pop off, they only fit on their respective side when replacing. Don't lose the two small black seals on the top of each side piece.

There are a total of four screws holding the body together. Remove the screws, using the proper flat blade or torx screwdriver. The shaver will then split into. You can then remove the the Motor Drive Unit and the separate circuit board with the batteries.

This would also be a good time to clean the goo buildup from around the shaver head.

Assembly is the reverse of above. The Motor Unit will only fit in one way, there is a flat side and a angular side. Be sure the pin for the trimmer is placed in its proper hole, or it won't extend.

when you remove the cutter block is there a white nylon fixture atop the vibrating mechanism? this nylon piece snaps on the vibrating rod and the cutter snaps into the nylon fixture.
