Re: 1050C plotter

Replace the network card, then reconfigure the IP address in the machine and that should take care of you. if not then you could have a bad emod (electronics module). also check the cat5 cable and the network drop for functionality.

Processes but won't print

Sometimes a plotter will show that is receiving data from the computer but will not print. I assume this is what you are describing. This can be caused by a couple of things. The first suspect is a corrupt file. Try a smaller file to see if it will print. If it does, the problematic files are probably from Photoshop or a CAD program. If a file has more than one level when it is sent to the plotter, the plotter has a hard time digesting it. Try "flattening" the file (makes a single level) and then send it to the plotter.

Another possibility is that the printer driver is no longer matched to the computer operating system or is simply corrupt. Go to and get the latest driver for the plotter. Windows XP Pro 64 drivers work well with W7 and 8.

Lastly, the Jetdirect card could be faulty. Reseat or replace the card.

You need to do setting in Driver Properties printing preferences in advanced tab, select computer memory if printer runs out of memory, if it configured on the network then set properties on computer where driver is installed.

Our 450C plotter is connected via E-Net Hub and has extened memory. The "Test Printer" works. However it will not complete an Auto Cad Drawing. The ready light continues to flash but the plotter stops. any...

This could be one of a number of things. The file being sent must be smaller than the total memory of the printer. Connect the computer directly to the plotter with a parallel printer cable and see if it prints. If you are using an OS newer than XP, try using the XP 32 bit driver. If you are printing from AutoCad 14 or older, upgrade AutoCad (newer uses Windows printer drivers). If you can print OK with the parallel cable, get new external JetDirect software from the HP website.

Does the HP DesignJet 1050c plotter have a counter?

This data is printed out on the Service Configuration Print

  1. Load the plotter with media.
  2. When the device is 'Ready' scroll the menu to the Printer setup options and press Enter.
  3. Once in the 'Printer Setup options' menu, use the arrow keys to scroll to 'Utilities', and press Enter.
  4. In the Utilities menu, use the Arrow key to scroll to 'Test Prints' and press Enter.
  5. Use the arrow key to scroll to 'Service Config' and press Enter to print the Service Configuration Print.
You should find the data you are after under the heading of Maintenance on the printout

Good Luck!

My Design Jet 1050c does not like to print PDF's. It says receiving low memory right now and is taking an extremely long time

Two questions:
1. How large is the PDF file and is saved on your local hard drive?
2. How is the plotter connected to your computer? Network or directly connected via parallel or USB?

Try changing how the printer processes the print job.
On the driver properties / preferences, select the Advanced tab and change the Process Document to "in computer" and then try printing again.

HP DesignJet 1050c InkJet plotting issue

You doesn't say what application and OS versions you have, or if the printer is shared from a server or connected locally to a workstation. This is signifcant to solve the problem. Please clarify.

To make this work properly, all machines should have the HPGL driver and all drivers should have both the "Autorotate" "Inked Area" boxes ticked - both under General > Printing Preferences > Advanced AND under Advanced > Printing Defaults > Advanced.

Then you should create a paper size that is as wide as the media is wide, and longer than the longest/widest paper size you're ever going to print (6-10 feet long is OK!) - BOTH under Printing Preferences AND under Printing Defaults. This will ensure that every "odd" paper size (within media width limits) is printed without problems.

If the printer is installed on a server and shared, these settings should be done on the server - and the driver should be reinstalled on the workstations. If not, these chanvges should be done on each workstation that has access to the printer over the network.

When using older versions of AutoCAD you might have to reinstall the printer there as well for the changes to take effect.

Note: This solution has worked successfully over several years while working at HP support. The suggestion about the looong paper size may sound strange but it works!

Hi the print not complet and make black line

Its difficult to see the actual problem, but this looks like a corrupt file. Go firstly to yout driver, right click on it , go to properties and then click on "print a test page" if this prints correctly then its the actual file, try another file/drawing. If this does not print correctly then I would reinstall the driver. If it still does not work then try another PC. I dont personally think you have a plotter problem, its one of the above.

Designjet 1050C

the plotter measures the media automatically. There is no size setting, only type of media. If you want to print on 8.5x 11 only a few times, load a sheet to print on by simply lifting the cover an aligning the sheet on the blue lines ,on the right side.If you plot a lot,I suggest get a 11" x 150' roll.
hope this helps
