Hi,
My wife has had a Breville BEM800 mixer for a few years now but it hasn't seen a lot of work. However today it has started playing up, if you set the speed control dial to low it will go at the set speed for 2 - 3 seconds and then just go flat out! It doesn't matter what speed you set it will do as you ask for 2 - 3 seconds and then suddenly you're covered in food :)
Any ideas would be most appreciated!
Thanks
Adam

It sounds like there might be a switch in the arm, but I don't see one. It appears to be an Australian model so results found in North America may be skewed..
Hi MIKEY, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! By the symptoms you are describing one or two possible electronic components to your wife’s mixer are going (or have gone) bad. The good news is that, with a little effort, you should be able to repair the mixer yourself. The inspection and troubleshooting of the inside of your mixer is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty.Just be sure to have the Parts List manual on hand.If you're lacking one, you can download a PDF version from the KA website a http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home. Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> and enter the 6 character model number, in your case KSM150P and select the next to last fileKSM150PSWH0.pdf (773.44 KB) (it’s the white model that all…) listed under Parts List (61). (Verify that it matches your mixer model). This parts list manual provides an exploded view for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer, along with all the part names and numbers.Turn to pages 8 & 9, titled: “Motor And Control Parts” and locate Illus. Nos. 28, 29 and 30; Control Plate Assembly; Governor Assembly, and Phase Control Board, respectively. I suspect your mixer’s erratic behavior is being caused by one, or more of these components going ‘bad.’Inspect all your connections to Control Plate Assembly from the Phase Control Board to see if one hasn’t come loose.Unfortunately the whole controller assembly is fabricated on a little PC board which was not meant to be 'home fixed', and my 'expertise' ends there.A local small appliance repair shop should be able to determine if the controller assembly is functioning properly or not, or you can just order replacement parts without the testing. And although the Governor Assembly is a mechanical device, if something is loose or broken on it that may also be a contributor to the mixers malaise. Also, while your mixer is apart it would be ideal to check for any other unseemly wear and tear on the gears, etc.It can be messy but quite gratifying to diagnose and repair your KA mixer yourself. Here are five potential vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com; mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com; and Grainger.com. If you clear the lubricating grease from your mixer, you’ll need to replacethe grease with a ‘food grade grease’ (although I’ve seen automotive bearing grease used. - your call.) Prices can vary widely between vendors, so do your comparison shopping. Finally, here are some links to several excellent websites that detail the disassembling/reassembly of a KA Mixer.
Between these three websites and their excellent pictures and descriptions and your Parts List manual, you should now be able to completely disassemble, repair and reassemble your mixer. If you feel this is beyond your capabilities and would be too difficult to do yourself you can take your mixer to a local small appliance repair shop and have them troubleshoot and fix your mixer. KA Customer Care can provide you with the name and phone # of the closest authorized KA repair shop in your area or you can do a Online web search, but be sure to get at least three estimates before deciding to commit to one repair shop.Good luck. I hope this helps. Howard, Burke, VA If this solution has helped you, please rate it, thanks! - hslincoln
oh yes you can.:) pur some wesson oil into the sockets the beaters go into and a little around the button.. Let set a few minutes and work the beaters back and forth as you pull gently. Make sure it is unplugged!!!!!
If you can feel anything when you press the button, unplug it and try to turn the mixer. Once you get it freed up, put a drom of cooking oil where the shaft comes out through the case.
Hi. All of you have the same problem. The electronic speed control board needs to be replaced. This board can be installed without much trouble. The board is modular, remove the old board and install the new one. The wiring is connected by a modular plug.
Goto www.kitchenaid.com enter your model # and search for the parts manual. These drawings will assist you with the task at hand.
If this solution has assisted you, please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45
Are you mixing at a high speed. For bread, you shouldn't go above a '2' setting on most of the mixers and keep the time fairly short -- more isn't needed.
Sorry if this is redundant, but info posted to another problem works here as well:
KitchenAid has one of the best user forums of any company as far as I'm
concerned. The participants are great and the monitors are exceptional
(some of the best problem solvers you are likely to run across). You
may find your experience already has a thread, if not, post it. I
checked in and they seem to have added a video library that has some of
the topics I've seen posted at this site.
