I have a GE wassher will wash, but will not spin or drain

Hi. 6 weeks ago, when my washer seemed to be filling and washing correctly, but simply would not spin, I took off the pump, removed bobby pins, a swiss army knife, barrettes, screws, nails, bolts, and $7.42 in change --- and I'm not joking about the change, I actually counted it out as I removed it.  This home repair seemed to work well, because the machine started working again.

Then, 2 days ago, the "I won't spin" problem resurfaced. I've tried everything suggested on this website except removing the pump. I thought that since I just cleaned it so thoroughly  a month ago, there could not be a substantial clog in the pump. So I thought of other possibilities. I checked the temp of the pump, figuring it would be as cold as the floor it stands on if it were not working. Well, the pump was hot.  In my mind, this means that the pump has been receiving its electrical signal; this in turn would mean that there aren't damaged wires or incomplete connections within the device.

Is it possible that the pump won't work unless it is perfectly level? My pump is definitely not sitting flat on a level floor. Or might the problem be that the pump is just worn out and needs replacement, even  thought it is getting its electrical signal? Or could the fix for this situation be focused on a loose belt somewhere within my machine?

Please HELP!!!! After 8 yr with a terrific front loader (really, I had a 5 yr service contract & never had one service call!  Never had trouble w/ the machine until 6 wk ago when it first refused to spin.), the thought of an inefficient, clothes-wrecking top loader is truly appalling to me. But with my 2 youngest kids still in college (great kids in great schools, & both have 1/2 tuition scholarships --- so we're only expected to pay about $60,000 per year to keep the 2 of them in school --- ), getting a new front loader, at approx $1000, is totally out of the question.

THANKS to anyone who has any potentially helpful ideas!!!!!!!

Sorry to say I think you burnt out your pump. Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago - I thoroughly cleaned the pump & lint trap and all it would do is sit there, buzz and get real hot. I had to order a new one on-line (range of $100 to $200 with Sears being the highest). I am PO's ad GE because cleaning the lint trap is definitely a user maintainable task and they have absolutely no word about it in the manual. An obvious ploy to drive service and parts (pumps) revenue.

There is another posted problem similar to this one if you look at GE front-loading washers.  I can tell you right now, though, that we just cleaned the filter (had the same problem as you) and everything is working perfectly now.  The bottom panel (on the front) of your washer comes off by removing 3 screws.  Our filter was full of lint, change, barrettes, etc.  I would highly recommend looking for that other post (has more information) or trying to clean the filter.  Hope this helps!

Kenmore Series 70 Top Loading Washing Machine Model # 110.20722991 Serial# CL 1134809 Hello, Our washing machine is leaving our clothes soaking wet when finished. What could the problem be?

2 things are possible. Can you tell if the spin cycle is engaging? If the spin cycle is not engaging properly or very fast, then the water will not leave the clothes. less likely is that the machine is not draining the water away properly or fast enough.

It won't spin until all the water is drained out. The drain pump may be blocked or faulty. Fix the drain pump fault first then deal with the filling issue. They will not be related.

Kenmore 80 didn't drain during the spin cycle and leak underneath machine. Makes buzzing noise in the wash cycles.

The pump is likely damaged if it was leaking. Look for a ring of melted plastic on the face side of the pump. Check to make sure the hole is not rounded where the motor shaft enters the pump.
I'd replace the pump just to make sure the washer doesn't flood some time in the future even if the pump turn out to be ok now.

My MayTag Atlantis washer will not spin or drain the water out, when it gets to the rinse cycle or spin cycle , it just makes a buzzing or clicking noise.

The brake mechanism is not releasing properly. The noise your hearing is the motor trying to move but can't. Do not continue to operate the washer or you will burn out the motor...an expensive replacement. See instructions for my other solutions.

Makes buzzing noise and won't spin or drain

Sounds like something is stuck in the drain pump.  If nothing is stuck in the pump replace the pump.  It won't spin until it drains, so fixing the drain problem will fix the spin.  You can get at the drain pump by taking off the bottom panel.

Kenmore front loading washer won't drain or aggitate, just buzzes

take the front bottom panel off. inside there is a drain pump. you need to remove filter from drain pump its look like a knob. be careful because their is water inside your drain pump so use some big thing for water. clean your filter. put filter back tight. i hope will solve your problem.
